Position: Philanthropy Officer

Location: Remote (New York)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Philanthropy Team Lead, the Philanthropy Officer identifies, cultivates, and solicits high-net-worth individuals for UNICEF USA's major donor program, managing a portfolio of 100–150 donors and prospects and securing five- and six-figure gifts.

Position Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy Insight team on portfolio management
  • Responsible for meeting individual KPIs
  • Manage a portfolio of 100-150 donors and prospects with an average annual giving capacity of $25K or higher, dedicating approximately 50% of time to steward a one-to-many portfolio of donors and 50% to qualification efforts from a pool of managed new leads
  • Develop and execute detailed strategies for top donors and prospects; securing five and six-figure gifts, multi-year gifts, and blended gifts
  • Shape and edit donor correspondences such as letters, emails, funding proposals, and reports
  • Maintain accurate records of donor outreach and solicitation plans through regular upkeep of donor database
  • Work collaboratively with the internal business units of UNICEF USA designed to assist the major giving program, e.g., special events, philanthropy coordination, stewardship, global programs, communications, etc.
  • Special projects and other responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years’ relevant work experience and proven track record of securing five and six-figure gifts
  • Must be a self-motivated professional with a proven success record in fundraising
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and
  • strong experience using a fundraising database
  • Keen attention to detail, flexibility in high-pressure situations and the willingness to assist with all
  • tasks needed to ensure the success of a small regional team
  • Ability to effectively lead internal and external meetings
  • Experience managing frontline fundraisers a plus
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with CRM technologies
  • Experience with international development or humanitarian organizations a plus
  • Employs active listening techniques in order to empathically meet clients’ needs in a manner that provides satisfaction for the client within the resources that can be made available.
  • Proficiency in transforming, translating, and communicating data-based information clearly to end users.
  • Drives own learning and takes initiative towards meeting annual professional development goals.
  • Ability to deal with highly sensitive information, maintain confidentiality, and exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion.
  • Understands key constituent, prospect, and proposal data elements (assignments, ratings, stages, etc.) as a whole. Ability to utilize this knowledge in a relational context, understanding and proactively accounting for the impact of updates on other prospect data points.
