Show job description

It’s not every day that a job comes along where you really can change the world. Keep reading if you want to be part of:

  • Turning the generosity of everyday New Zealanders into life-changing support for children in the world’s toughest places.
  • Learning the craft of relationship-based giving, with a team that will coach you and back your growth.
  • Building warm, lasting relationships, one conversation at a time, with people who care deeply about children.

Fundraising at World Vision is more than raising money. It is about inviting people to take part in our mission in a meaningful way. As our Relationship officer , you’ll be the warm, trusted voice behind generous New Zealanders’ giving.

You’ll care for a portfolio of individuals and families who give significant amounts each year, and for supporters who have the heart and the capacity to do the same. You’ll also walk alongside Visionaries, supporters who choose to leave a gift in their will. Most of your work happens by phone, where you’ll listen to what matters to each person and show them the difference they make for children.

Along the way you’ll discover what motivates a donor, how to invite a gift in an honest and unhurried way, and how to build a relationship that lasts for years. With coaching from experienced colleagues, you’ll build the skills to move into a major donor role. When a donor is ready to give more, you’ll introduce them to our Philanthropy Managers.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Building genuine relationships with your donors, mostly by phone, and getting to know their story, values, and hopes.
  • Creating a personal gift plan for each donor, and inviting gifts in a clear, honest way, never with pressure.
  • Thanking donors and showing them the difference their gifts make for children.
  • Guiding Visionaries from their first enquiry to a confirmed gift in their will.
  • Spotting supporters who could give more, and learning from experienced colleagues as you grow with World Vision.
  • You’ll keep accurate records in our CRM, help at donor events, and work closely with colleagues across Fundraising, Marketing, and Content.

This is your opportunity to join a professional, passionate and diverse team at World Vision New Zealand, who will stop at nothing to create meaningful change for children. Every day, as part of World Vision’s global reach, you’ll help the world’s most vulnerable families build safer and brighter futures. Every night, you’ll go home knowing you made a difference in someone’s life.

About you:

  • Experience in relationship-based work, such as fundraising, account management, sales or similar role.
  • A track record of working towards targets and managing your own workload.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, and a warm, confident phone manner.
  • Curiosity about people, and the ability to build trust over time.
  • Comfort talking about sensitive topics, such as gifts in wills, with empathy and clarity.
  • Strong organisation and data skills, including CRM experience. Microsoft Dynamics is a plus.
  • A background in not-for-profit or mission led fundraising.
  • Experience with mid-level or legacy donor programmes is a plus.
  • A growth mindset, a keen desire to hone the craft of philanthropic fundraising, and confidence using digital tools and data with care.
  • Fit with World Vision’s Christian identity and a heart for our mission.
