PHP Developer

About the Role:

The PHP Developer will support federal economic data programs by developing and maintaining web applications, mostly in PHP with some Python, and by building scripts and tools that support infrastructure management. The applications include systems that publish data to the public, track the lifecycle of incoming data files, and support public data queries. This is a fully remote role with occasional in-person meetings in Bethesda, MD, and requires a dependable developer who communicates clearly and thrives in a distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop new features and provide support and maintenance for web applications, mostly in PHP and sometimes in Python.
• Support a data dissemination application that publishes data to the public through a PHP approval application, with data and files served through a high-delivery architecture.
• Support a record-tracking system that follows the lifecycle of data files provided to the agency.
• Support a public web application for public data queries.
• Create scripts and lightweight applications to monitor, manage, and optimize infrastructure, including servers, databases, cloud, and middleware.
• Build custom monitoring, workflows, and support tools to meet infrastructure support needs.
• Participate in Agile routines, code reviews, and design discussions, and provide consistent communication in a remote environment.

• Experience developing new features for PHP web applications and supporting and maintaining existing ones
• Experience with applications that publish data and files to the public
• Working knowledge of Python for web application development
• Cloud development and systems engineering experience
• Experience writing scripts and lightweight tools to monitor, manage, and optimize infrastructure
• Effective communication and reliability in a fully remote environment.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen due to federal contract security requirements
