About the role
Help shape the future of environmental and operational intelligence at Southern Water. We're looking for a PI Application Specialist to join our Operational Technology (OT) function, working as a dedicated specialist for the Aspire Product Team.
Aspire supports Southern Water's spill compliance activity, using operational and environmental data to strengthen reporting, insight and decision-making. At the heart of this is the AVEVA PI platform, and this role will focus on developing how PI Asset Framework and PI Analytics are used to turn operational data into trusted, meaningful information.
This is more development-focused than a traditional PI support role. You'll sit within OT, with access to the standards and expertise of the wider team, while working day-to-day with the Aspire Product Team in an Agile environment. You'll build solutions in Asset Framework, develop analytics and calculations, support testing and integration, and help the product team respond to evolving business and regulatory needs.
You'll work closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, Developers, Analysts and operational stakeholders, combining strong PI expertise with a practical, collaborative approach to solving real-world environmental challenges.
What you'll be responsible for:
• Develop and optimise AVEVA PI solutions, with a particular focus on PI Asset Framework, PI Analytics, calculations, Event Frames and asset hierarchies.
• Work with the Aspire Product Team to translate business and user needs into practical technical solutions, enhancements and integrations.
• Contribute technical expertise across Agile delivery, including discovery, backlog refinement, sprint planning, testing and deployment.
• Improve the quality, accessibility and reliability of operational and environmental data used for spill verification, compliance and reporting.
• Build strong relationships across OT, Rivers and Seas, Digital and operational teams, helping shape technical roadmaps and continuous improvement.
What you'll bring to the role:
Essential
• Hands-on experience administering, developing or supporting AVEVA PI / OSIsoft PI, including PI Data Archive and Asset Framework (AF).
• Strong experience building within PI AF and working with PI Analytics, calculations, tags, Event Frames, interfaces or connectors.
• Experience working with operational or industrial data systems, with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
• Ability to understand business requirements and turn them into effective, scalable technical solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach to delivery.
Desirable
• Experience working in an Agile or product-led delivery environment.
• Knowledge of SCADA, telemetry, operational technology or utility / water industry systems.
• Experience supporting compliance, regulatory or environmental data and reporting processes.
• Experience with SQL, Python, JSON, JavaScript or similar technologies, and an understanding of system integration.
• Awareness of digital architecture and cybersecurity principles within an OT environment.
