We're looking for a Planner to join our Kier Environment team based in South West – flexible office/project locations; regular site attendance and travel required. Hybrid working by agreement.
Location: South West – flexible office/project locations
Hours: 45 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.
As a Planner, you will develop and manage integrated tender and delivery programmes for environmental and civil engineering infrastructure projects, including flood defence, coastal protection, reservoir improvements and asset protection. Working independently with support from experienced colleagues, you'll provide reliable forecasts and clear programme advice to support informed project and commercial decisions. You'll join a friendly, good-natured team where open communication, collaboration and problem-solving are encouraged. This opportunity would suit someone ready to progress in their planning career, or a construction professional moving into planning from site delivery, engineering, commercial or project management roles.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Planner, you'll be working within the Kier Environment team, supporting them in delivering environmental and civil engineering infrastructure projects. Your day to day will include:
- Developing and maintaining fully integrated programmes using Microsoft Project and Primavera P6, covering all project stages from design through to handover
- Attending sites regularly to verify progress, understand construction methods and validate dates, quantities and productivity with delivery teams
- Coordinating with environmental specialists to include surveys, mitigation and working windows for protected species, permits and consents
- Analysing critical paths, identifying risks and producing accurate reports to support project and commercial decisions
- Managing multiple schemes concurrently across different locations, prioritising competing requirements and coordinating updates
What are we looking for?
This role of Planner is great for you if:
- You have relevant construction, civil engineering or project planning experience with HNC/HND, degree or equivalent practical experience
- You possess strong Excel skills including lookups, conditional formulas, PivotTables and data validation, and are competent in Microsoft Project and Primavera P6
- You have good commercial acumen and working knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly programme requirements, early warnings and compensation events
- You understand construction sequencing, logistics and productivity, and can validate planning assumptions with site teams
- You're self-motivated, able to work independently and prioritise competing demands while recognising when to seek support, with clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively
We're all about finding potential here at Kier, and transferable skills are always welcome! So, even if you don't tick every box, please apply and we can have a chat.
