🚀 Start: January-February 2027.

Are you passionate about sustainable agriculture? Do you want to make a real impact on how we grow food? At Source.ag, we build AI-powered tools that help growers produce more, better harvests with fewer resources. We’re looking for a hands-on Plant Science Intern to bridge the gap between practical growing experience and software.

About Source

At Source.ag, we’re on a mission to power a sustainable future by using cutting-edge AI in greenhouse technology to deliver more fresh produce to the world. Our values drive everything we do to support this mission. They shape how we work, collaborate, and achieve our goals:

🧑‍🌾 All In for our Growers: We work closely with growers, prioritizing their needs.
🌈 Strength through Diversity: We embrace different perspectives and backgrounds, fostering a culture of mutual respect, inclusion, and collaboration.
🌟 Learn–Adapt–Succeed: We grow through continuous feedback, learning, and dedication.
🚀 Driven to Deliver: We are dedicated to delivering impactful results.
🌱 Plant Solutions: We plant solutions that shape the future of food production.

Our approach

We're a team that gives people ownership early and moves fast from idea to impact. The people who thrive here love solving hard customer problems, bring a growth mindset that's always eager to learn, and don't mind rolling up their sleeves for operational work or jumping in wherever the team needs a hand.

You’ll love it here if you:

  • Enjoy taking ownership and seeing your ideas come to life

  • Like working at pace, where things move fast from idea to impact

  • Are endlessly curious: you always seek feedback and aren’t afraid to give it to anyone when it helps the work move forward

  • Get energy from a driven, supportive team

You might prefer somewhere else if you:

  • Are looking for a slower, more predictable pace

  • Prefer roles where the scope stays fixed and clearly defined

  • Prefer fixed hours and a set schedule

What you’ll do

This is first and foremost a plant science internship. You’ll work closely with our plant scientists, data experts, and software engineers. Together, you’ll turn real cultivation challenges into data-driven solutions. Depending on your project, you may run greenhouse experiments, analyze data, or interview growers and industry experts.

This isn’t a lab-coat research role. We want someone who understands the greenhouse and enjoys working with plants. The data part grows with you, and we support you throughout. No advanced coding is expected.

* Possible projects: we’ll shape your project together at the start, based on your interests and our priorities. To show the range, possible topics include:

  • Strawberry plant registration and harvest forecasting

  • Leaf area index: refining how we calculate it

  • Multi-channel LED lighting: how light recipes can improve plant health and yield

  • Product development: building custom calculations and workflows for growers

* These are examples, not a fixed list.

What you’ll gain

  • Real exposure to how commercial growers make decisions

  • High ownership: you’ll see how your work connects to the tools growers use

  • Hands-on experience with greenhouse research and real-world crop data

  • Experience working with AI tools in a scientific setting

  • Mentorship from plant scientists and data specialists

  • Skills that transfer to agtech, applied research, and data-driven plant science

Who we’re looking for

  • You’re a Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field

  • You have practical experience growing vegetables, ideally in a production greenhouse, through an earlier internship or your studies

  • You understand how plants grow and develop in a commercial setting

  • You like working with data, and you’re curious about coding. Experience with data analysis tools or programming is a plus

  • You enjoy using AI tools, or you’re keen to learn. We use them every day in our work

  • You’re excited to bring your practical knowledge into a software team

  • You’re comfortable working in English

  • You live in the Netherlands and are enrolled at a Dutch university for the whole internship

  • You have a driver’s license that’s valid in the Netherlands, as you’ll visit greenhouses around the country regularly

  • You’re available for at least 4 months, at least 3 days a week

  • You can work from our Amsterdam office at least 2 days a week (Monday and Thursday are our office days)

What we offer

  • €830 per month internship compensation (based on 40 hours a week, pro rata for fewer days)

  • A MacBook for the duration of your internship

  • A hybrid setup: part from home, part from our Amsterdam office at B. Amsterdam

  • Travel allowance for your office commute

  • Lunch provided when you’re in the office

  • Access to OpenUp for mental well-being support
