We are looking for an experienced Platform DevOps Engineer specialising in XML Data Automation to join a technical team responsible for maintaining reliable, scalable and accurate content synchronisation systems.
The role focuses on XML-based technologies, data validation, automation and cloud operations within a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment.
You will work closely with engineers to develop, maintain and optimise XML queries, automate operational processes and ensure data consistency across complex systems.
This is a hands-on engineering position requiring strong expertise in XQuery, XPath and XML databases, combined with DevOps and Linux experience.
Develop, maintain and optimise XQuery and XPath logic for XML-based data synchronisation and validation.
Design and support XML data processing workflows, ensuring accuracy, consistency and performance.
Work with XML databases such as MarkLogic, BaseX or eXist-db.
Automate deployment, configuration and operational processes using Ansible and shell scripting.
Support the packaging, deployment and release of platform components, including RPM packages.
Monitor and maintain applications and services operating within Google Cloud Platform.
Investigate and resolve XML synchronisation failures, data validation errors and performance issues.
Perform root cause analysis and implement improvements to platform reliability.
Support Linux-based infrastructure, troubleshooting and operational maintenance.
Collaborate with development and operations teams to improve automation, scalability and system stability.
6-8+ years of relevant software engineering, XML development or platform engineering experience.
Strong hands-on experience with XQuery and XPath.
Experience working with XML databases, ideally MarkLogic, BaseX or eXist-db.
Excellent understanding of XML data modelling, querying, transformation and validation.
Experience developing and maintaining XML-based processing and integration solutions.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, particularly around data synchronisation and validation.
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-based operations.
Experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation.
Proficiency in Bash and Linux shell scripting.
Experience working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar Linux environments.
Knowledge of RPM packaging and software release processes.
Familiarity with CI/CD practices, deployment automation and operational monitoring.
Java development experience, particularly within XML processing or integration environments.
Knowledge of XML-related Java technologies, including JAXP and JAXB.
Experience with XSLT, XSL-FO and other XML transformation technologies.
Experience supporting enterprise applications with complex data synchronisation requirements.
Exposure to cloud-native engineering and DevOps best practices
The ideal candidate is a technically strong XML engineer with hands-on experience in XQuery, XPath and XML databases, alongside a solid understanding of DevOps practices.
You should be comfortable working independently, investigating complex data issues and building automated solutions that improve platform reliability.
Please note: This is primarily an XML development and data automation position rather than a traditional infrastructure-focused DevOps role. Strong XML engineering experience is essential.
