Platform Engineer | C#/.NET, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes | 20+ Year Profitable Trading Firm Expanding Overseas

  • Salary: above-market base plus a generous bonus
  • Location: Hertfordshire, hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in the office)

I'm working with a long-established online trading business, profitable for over twenty years and now expanding into new markets, that wants a software engineer for its three-person platform team. You'll run the AWS, Terraform and Kubernetes (K8s) platform behind 400+ C# microservices, and write the code that makes life easier for the 30 developers who use it every day.

This one is for the developer who drifted into infrastructure and found they liked it. The team are software engineers first, so your coding background counts for more here than years of pipeline scripting, and you'll keep writing C# as part of the job.

What They're Looking For (Non-Negotiables)

  • Software engineering: commercial developer experience, ideally C#/.NET, or Node.js/TypeScript
  • AWS, or similar: building and running cloud infrastructure
  • Terraform, or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • AI coding tools: you use them daily and want to push them further
  • Communication: you'll support around 30 engineers day to day

What You'll Work With

  • Kubernetes, Linux and Docker
  • Kafka
  • Redis/Valkey
  • HAProxy and Consul
  • Grafana and OpenSearch
  • Azure DevOps Pipelines and Argo CD
  • Python and TypeScript for most day-to-day coding

Nice to Haves

  • Observability: building monitoring and alerting
  • Security principles and best practice
  • Developer tooling for a large microservice estate

Why Join / Projects

  • You'll set the agenda. The platform team has more autonomy than any other IT team there: you decide the requirements, how to meet them and what to tackle next.
  • You'll fix the friction you've hit yourself as a developer, including C# services that process branches and hand releases to the testing service.
  • Your work stays varied. It splits about 50/50 between support and projects, from app work to the yearly Kubernetes upgrade, and the team moves on quickly when something more useful comes up.
  • You'll bring AI into how the team works. They want people who spot where it helps, and you'll use Claude Code in the final interview.
  • You'll join a supportive team with no office politics or red tape, where decisions get made quickly and there's room to progress to Senior Platform Engineer.

They release many times a day, so the team staggers its hours to cover releases. Everyone is in on the same days to make the face-to-face time count, so make sure the commute works for you before you apply. The process is quick: a short online test, then a combined technical and final interview, usually the next day.

Employee Benefits

  • Bonus based on company, department and individual performance
  • Early or standard shift pattern to suit you
  • 2 weeks fully remote per year
  • 25 days holiday, rising to 30 after 2 years
  • Contributory pension
  • Private medical insurance

If you're a developer who ended up owning the infrastructure and enjoyed it, apply and I'll give you a call.
