Platform Engineer

Infrastructure Platform Engineer | Contract | £430/day Outside IR35 | Fully Remote | 15 Months

I’m looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Platform Engineer to join a global financial services organisation, working through my client, a global technology integrator.

This isn’t another public cloud role. You’ll be running self-managed, dedicated and bare-metal infrastructure, close to the hardware and close to the network, with security built into everything you touch: encryption, key management and certificate lifecycle. It’s a long-term engagement where you’ll own real production systems and work directly with developers who value engineers that ask the right questions early.

What you’ll be doing:

• Managing Ubuntu Linux servers in production across dedicated hosting and colocation data centres
• Configuring and debugging routing, DNS, firewalls and VPNs
• Diagnosing physical server and hardware failures, always chasing root cause rather than symptoms
• Automating infrastructure with Ansible and scripting, and monitoring with metrics, dashboards, alerts and logs
• Assessing the security impact of changes and turning compliance requirements into practical infrastructure work

What you’ll need:

• 5+ years of hands-on infrastructure engineering
• Strong production Ubuntu Linux experience (systemd, logs, package management, filesystems)
• Experience with dedicated hosting providers (e.g. Hetzner, OVH) or colocation environments
• Solid networking fundamentals: routing, DNS, firewalls, VPNs
• Ansible or similar configuration management, plus scripting

Nice to have: ZFS, WireGuard, KVM/QEMU, Grafana/VictoriaMetrics/ELK, PKI and certificate automation, Vault/OpenBao or SOPS, ISO 27001 or SOC 2 exposure.

• £430 per day, Outside IR35
• 15-month contract
• Fully remote, UK-based, working Sweden time zone (CET), occasional travel
