As a Platform Engineer III, you will be a technical contributor for the team that manages the core integration platform of U.S. healthcare systems. Availity connects millions of providers with thousands of health plans, and our API Gateway platforms are the key to delivering services end to end. In this role you will: Manage and evolve our API Gateway integration platforms at enterprise scale Manage the tooling and support for intelligent automated integration with flexibility and reliability as your mission Analyze and refine API definition standards and drive support for innovation at scale in our API ecosystem Guide and mentor junior engineers while setting the bar for operational excellence Sponsorship, in any form, is not available for this position. Location: Remote, US Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience 4-6 years of relevant technical and business experience in IT systems delivery, operations, and support (preferably in healthcare or high-transaction environments) 3+ years of experience in technical engineering efforts involving implementation and management of IT systems. Hands-on experience with: API Gateway management at scale HTTP integration and API authentication frameworks SSL certificates (validation, encryption, authentication, signature) Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm) and AWS services (VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, Istio) Observability and monitoring tools (preferably Splunk, New Relic) Experience bridging infrastructure and development teams, ensuring alignment of roadmaps and goals. Ability to lead and guide technical teams. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Skills: SaaS experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical systems. Familiarity with API management and gateway software (preferably Tyk) and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) product management Background in metrics-driven reliability engineering (SLOs, SLIs, error budgets) Experience with scripting/programming (Go, JavaScript, Python, etc.) Set yourself apart: You thrive in high-transaction, high-uptime environments and know how to balance operational rigor with engineering speed You have experience leading technology initiatives using cloud-native best practices You are comfortable debugging connectivity issues in complex enterprise environments, including dependencies with external services, and collaborating with technical contacts at the customer You are self-motivated and thrive with autonomy while balancing communication with leadership and stakeholders What you will be doing: Managing and advancing the API integration platforms and related infrastructure components, including software upgrades, performance monitoring, and application development team collaboration Helping lead platform enhancement efforts that enable flexible and secure integration between internal and external services Providing guidance and expertise for application service design, data and transaction workflows for scalability, reliability and extensibility Following infrastructure-as-code best practices (Terraform, Helm, Ansible) for repeatable deployments and environment consistency Driving operational excellence through on-call rotation support, thorough post-mortem investigation, and implementing solutions that improve resilience Performing unit testing and complex debugging, and identifying opportunities for automated testing where appropriate Performing analysis of technical feasibility and solution design, including estimation of work efforts, planning, and backlog organization Ensuring upgrades, patching, and platform updates are proactively planned and executed without business disruption Helping set reliability targets and defining operational metrics (availability, latency, error budgets) in line with SRE methodologies Writing detailed technical documentation for systems, including architectural diagrams, and operational procedures for standardized actions used for maintenance and support Availity culture and benefits: Availity is a certified “Great Place to Work”, a “Best Workplaces for Technology Companies”, a “Best Workplaces for Women” and a “Best Workplaces for Millennials”!
