AWS AND DEPLOYMENT | INTERNSHIP TO HIRE

Company: BalanX Bio Team: Platform Engineering

About the Role

BalanX Bio is seeking Platform Engineer Interns to help our Platform Engineering team support AWS infrastructure and application deployments. You will work with backend and frontend engineers, QA, and Cybersecurity to build, deploy, troubleshoot, and document reliable application services, with an initial focus on staging and testing environments.

This is a structured internship-to-hire opportunity. During the internship, you will receive hands-on experience, guidance, and regular feedback while taking on progressively scoped work. Strong performance, demonstrated role fit, business needs, and completion of the internship may lead to consideration for a full-time Platform Engineer position.

Internship Structure and Conversion

· Internship role: Platform Engineer Intern, AWS and Deployment.

· You will begin with supervised tasks and may take on greater responsibility as your skills and access are approved.

· Performance will be assessed through technical quality, reliability, communication, documentation, collaboration, and follow-through.

· Full-time conversion will be considered based on performance, business needs, and budget.

What You Will Work On

AWS Infrastructure and Deployment

· Support deployment and maintenance of application services on AWS, starting with staging and testing environments.

· Work with services such as ECS, ECR, RDS/PostgreSQL, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, and Secrets Manager.

· Build and publish Docker images, assist with ECS task definitions and service updates, and verify the intended application version is running.

· Help configure environment variables, service permissions, storage access, and connections between application services and dependencies.

· Follow environment separation, change review, and approval procedures for infrastructure updates.

Deployment and CI/CD Support

· Work with CS engineers to prepare deployment-ready changes, confirm repository, branch, commit, image, configuration, and target environment, and coordinate with QA.

· Assist with GitHub-based CI/CD workflows for installation, testing, container builds, artifacts, and deployment.

· Help troubleshoot authentication, API, file upload, email delivery, WebSocket, worker, and service connectivity issues.

· Support reproducible builds, deployment records, handoffs, and documented promotion and rollback procedures.

· Help with mobile build automation and artifact handoff when infrastructure or CI configuration is involved.

Troubleshooting, Reliability, and Security

· Investigate deployment failures, unhealthy containers, startup errors, failed health checks, and service connectivity problems using logs and service events.

· Help diagnose packaging, Linux, networking, DNS, TLS, routing, timeout, and dependency issues.

· Support monitoring and alert checks, recovery steps, and runbook improvements.

· Coordinate approved database migrations with backend engineers, including compatibility checks and post-deployment verification.

· Follow least-privilege access, approved secret-management practices, and careful handling of logs and sensitive information.

Documentation and Collaboration

· Maintain practical deployment guides, environment notes, troubleshooting records, and rollback instructions.

· Track assigned work, blockers, and evidence in ClickUp; share clear updates in Slack and escalate release risks promptly.

· Coordinate infrastructure verification with QA and provide concise handoffs that identify deployed version, endpoints, limitations, and checks completed.

Qualifications

· Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or equivalent training in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.

· Foundational hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, Linux command line, Git, and application deployment through coursework, projects, research, or work.

· Familiarity with AWS services such as ECS, ECR, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, or RDS; candidates need not have used every service.

· Basic understanding of backend applications, REST APIs, environment configuration, databases, and CI/CD workflows.

· Ability to write or modify automation in Bash, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

· Clear written communication, careful documentation, and willingness to learn through feedback and supervised technical work.

· Able to explain a technical project, your individual contribution, a problem you encountered, and how you verified the outcome.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Node.js or TypeScript applications, PostgreSQL, or GitHub Actions.

· Exposure to Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.

· Familiarity with AWS networking, load balancing, CloudFront, Amplify, SES, Redis, asynchronous workers, or WebSocket services.

· Experience with monitoring, incident response, backup restoration, cloud cost awareness, mobile build pipelines, or release artifact management.

· AWS certification or equivalent demonstrated hands-on learning.

What Success Looks Like

You will learn the existing architecture and deployment workflow, verify your approved access, and trace a service from source code through a build and staging deployment. As your familiarity grows, success includes completing supervised deployments, producing accurate deployment records, verifying service health, investigating a runtime issue, improving a script or runbook, and giving CS and QA a clear testing handoff.

Application Materials

Please submit a résumé and a short description of an AWS deployment or troubleshooting project. Include the services involved, your contribution, a challenge you faced, and how you verified the result. GitHub repositories, architecture diagrams, or sanitized technical write-ups are welcome.
