Platform Engineering Lead (Architecture, Reliability & Operations)
AllianzAbout the Job We are looking for a strategic Engineering Lead to own our enterprise platform products as a business — connecting technology decisions to business outcomes. You will be the single point of accountability for the platform's direction, delivery commitments, budget, and value: translating business strategy into technical roadmaps, steering investment and cost-to-serve, and advising product and business leadership as a trusted consultant. You lead through influence, financial acumen, and stakeholder alignment — with enough technical depth to challenge architecture decisions and keep engineering honest. What you do Own the platform strategy: define and evolve the product/platform roadmap in line with business priorities, market context, and enterprise architecture direction. Manage the platform as a P&L: own budget planning, forecasting, and cost-to-serve; make build/buy/partner decisions and steer investment toward the highest business value. Align stakeholders: bring Product, Security, Operations, and Business leaders to a shared technical direction and realistic delivery commitments; manage trade-offs transparently. Advise leadership: act as trusted technology consultant to product and business executives — translating complex technical topics into business language, risks, and options. Govern delivery and reliability: establish and track engineering KPIs (delivery velocity, change failure rate, MTTR, availability, cost-to-serve) and hold teams accountable for technical health as well as feature delivery. Steer architecture decisions: sponsor architecture reviews, trade-off analyses, and technology selection — ensuring scalability, security, and compliance without doing the detailed design yourself. Ensure operational and regulatory soundness: oversee SLAs/SLOs, incident management maturity, and audit/compliance readiness, especially in a regulated environment. Develop the organization: mentor tech leads and engineering managers, raise delivery discipline, and build a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. What you bring 8+ years in technology roles, with 3+ years leading platforms, products, or engineering organizations with end-to-end accountability. Demonstrated experience managing technology budgets and P&L — planning, forecasting, cost optimization, and investment cases — ideally for platform or product portfolios. A consultant's toolkit: structuring ambiguous problems, building business cases, facilitating executive decisions, and communicating with impact at senior levels. Strong understanding of modern platform architecture — cloud, microservices, APIs, DevOps/SRE — sufficient to evaluate options, challenge designs, and assess risk credibly. A track record of aligning cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Security, Operations, Business) around technology direction and delivery commitments. Experience in regulated industries (Financial Services, Insurance, Healthcare) strongly preferred — including compliance, audit, and operational-resilience expectations. Familiarity with Agile portfolio and delivery governance, engineering KPIs, and vendor/partner management. BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Business/Technology, or equivalent experience; an MBA or consulting background is a plus. Excellent English for executive communication, business writing, and stakeholder engagement across technical and non-technical audiences.
