Platform Reliability Engineer (Kubernetes/Linux) - Hybrid Porto (3 days/week office)
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Senior Platform Reliability Engineer to join a leading European telecommunications operator. You will help keep large-scale, business-critical production platforms reliable, observable and secure. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you will work across infrastructure, distributed systems and operations, and shape how reliability is engineered, measured and improved.
PROJECT & CONTEXT
- Industry: Telecommunications, with high-traffic, high-availability production systems at scale
- Focus: Reliability of Kubernetes-based platforms, observability, incident response and automation
- Team setup: Close collaboration with engineering, operations and support teams. You will build tools and documentation that operations and support teams use day to day
- Work model: Hybrid, 2 days per week at the Porto office
- Location: Candidates must be based in Porto (any nationality)
- Language: English B2 (Upper Intermediate) minimum, for daily communication in an international environment
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)
- 5+ years of professional experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering or Backend Engineering, including time operating production systems at scale
- Strong Linux fundamentals and confidence on the command line
- Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes, covering workloads, networking, RBAC, observability and troubleshooting
- Scripting and automation in Python, Go or a similar language
- Solid grasp of distributed systems, including APIs, messaging, caching, latency, throughput and failure modes
- Production experience with at least one major datastore, and an understanding of how data affects reliability
- Networking and security fundamentals, including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, TLS, firewalls, reverse proxies and identity
- Experience designing useful observability (metrics, logs, tracing, alerting)
- Experience contributing to incident response and blameless postmortems
- Experience working alongside operations or support teams
- English B2 (Upper Intermediate) or higher
NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)
- Background in telecommunications or other high-availability, high-traffic environments
- Experience defining SLIs/SLOs and error budgets
- Experience building internal tooling and runbooks that improve on-call and support efficiency
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices
