About us

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. As we support the energy transition and delivery of a reliable, resilient network, we are looking for a PMO Performance Analyst to join our Asset Operations team.

This role can be based from any of our national offices, with regular collaboration at our Warwick office. We are happy to discuss flexible working patterns or reasonable adjustments that could help make the role work for you.

(No sponsorship is being offered for this position)

Job purpose

Working within the PMO, you will support portfolio governance, controls and performance insight across a complex, high-value capital portfolio. You will help ensure projects are delivered safely and effectively against time, cost, quality and performance expectations, while turning trusted data into clear insights that support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

This is more than governance administration or dashboard production. You will work with stakeholders to understand what good performance looks like, support effective controls across cost, risk, schedule and change, and translate complex information into meaningful conclusions and recommendations. Using Power BI and modern reporting techniques, you will help teams and leaders identify trends, manage risks, uncover opportunities and improve portfolio delivery.

What you'll do

  • Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of PMO governance, aligned with the PMO roadmap and organisational standards, by maintaining accurate information and providing effective portfolio reporting and assurance.
  • Support integrated portfolio control across cost, risk, schedule and change by monitoring performance against agreed baselines and highlighting exceptions, dependencies and emerging issues.
  • Support the development and maintenance of performance frameworks, metrics and KPIs that connect strategic objectives with project and portfolio outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports and visualisations, using trusted data to support data-driven decisions.
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand performance objectives and reporting requirements, clarify needs and help develop effective reporting and control solutions.
  • Analyse trends, patterns and anomalies to identify emerging risks, delivery issues and opportunities for improvement, presenting findings clearly to PMO and business stakeholders.
  • Support cost management activities, including forecasting, budget tracking, variance analysis and cost governance, working with Finance and delivery teams to improve financial control and transparency.
  • Support integrated planning and scheduling by maintaining portfolio information, monitoring milestones and highlighting dependencies, risks and priorities.
  • Maintain risk, issue and change management information; support reviews, check data quality and help ensure changes are appropriately assessed and reflected across cost, schedule and risk.
  • Prepare material for portfolio performance reviews, explain the story behind the data, record agreed actions and track progress.
  • Work with Data, Governance and wider business teams to ensure reporting and assurance outputs use trusted, high-quality data and support regulatory and performance reporting needs.
  • Work with PMO colleagues, including offshore resources, and stakeholders across Asset Operations to improve PMO processes, tools, data quality and ways of working.

About you

You will combine analytical capability with a practical understanding of PMO disciplines and project governance. You will be comfortable working with stakeholders, asking constructive questions and turning data into accurate, accessible insight that supports governance, assurance and delivery performance across a capital portfolio.

Essential

  • Experience in a PMO, project controls, portfolio reporting, governance or performance analysis role within a complex delivery environment.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, programmes or portfolios, with an understanding of project lifecycles, governance controls and assurance processes.
  • Understanding of project performance measures across cost, risk, schedule and change, with the ability to interpret performance data and identify trends, issues and opportunities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex data into meaningful insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Experience developing or maintaining dashboards and visual analytics using Power BI and/or Tableau.
  • Good understanding of data modelling, data visualisation principles and relational data sources, together with experience gathering, interpreting and refining business requirements.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to ask constructive questions, challenge where appropriate and present findings clearly.
  • An organised, proactive and continuous improvement mindset, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Particularly Interested In

We would be especially interested in hearing from candidates who have experience within:

  • Utilities, energy, infrastructure, engineering, construction, manufacturing or other asset-intensive industries.
  • PMO, Governance, Project Controls or Portfolio Management Office environments.
  • Capital investment programmes and the governance processes that support effective project delivery.

Desirable

  • Awareness of asset management principles, including IAM, or relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience with Power Automate, AI-powered tools or advanced analytics techniques.
  • Experience supporting risk reviews, quantitative risk analysis or schedule risk analysis.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £50,000 – £65,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
