Programme Planner (Project Controls)

Join Our Award-Winning Team as a Programme Planner!

At Severn Trent, we do more than deliver water. We protect the environment, support communities, and invest in sustainable infrastructure that will serve generations to come. Join our award winning organisation and play a pivotal role in turning ambition into reality.

With nearly 10,000 colleagues, we’re united by a shared purpose: to innovate, challenge the status quo, and deliver better outcomes for our customers and communities. This is your opportunity to be part of something meaningful — and to see the real world impact of your planning expertise.

LET'S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

We're looking for an experienced Programme Planner to join our Strategic Delivery Office (SDO) team and support the successful delivery of major capital investment programmes across our business.

Using Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC), you'll develop, maintain and analyse integrated schedules, providing the insight needed to support effective decision-making, optimise delivery performance and deliver successful programme outcomes.

As a trusted planning professional, you’ll sit at the heart of programme delivery — working collaboratively with Delivery, Design, Commercial teams, and our supply chain partners. Your insight, analysis and foresight will directly influence decision making, helping leaders understand schedule risk and performance to enable the successful delivery of complex capital programmes.

This role offers the opportunity to influence major capital programmes through high-quality planning, analysis and insight.

  • Location: Raynesway (Derby), Shelton (Shrewsbury) or Finham (Coventry).
  • Hybrid working, typically 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
  • Travel: Occasional site visits across the Midlands (full UK driving licence required).

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Developing, maintaining and reporting integrated, logic-linked schedules across multiple projects, programmes and workstreams using Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC).
  • Conducting schedule analysis, critical path assessment, forecasting and scenario planning, identifying variances, risks, opportunities and delivery impacts to support effective decision-making.
  • Undertaking schedule assurance and health assessments to ensure schedule quality, integrity and compliance with planning standards.
  • Collaborating with Delivery, Commercial, Design and Supply Chain teams to coordinate programme activities, interfaces and dependencies.
  • Producing planning reports, updating dashboards and providing insights to support programme performance, governance and decision-making.
  • Championing continuous improvement of planning standards, processes and capability.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience as a Project Planner or Programme Planner within infrastructure, utilities, engineering, construction or major capital delivery environments.
  • Proficiency in Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC), Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Proven experience developing, maintaining and analysing logic-linked project schedules across the full project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge and experience undertaking critical path analysis, scenario planning and schedule performance management to support programme decision-making.
  • Experience supporting integrated project controls, programme governance and performance reporting, including schedule assurance, quality health checks, risks, and change management.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, plan and organise own workload, and work proactively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced programme environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex planning information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Understanding of NEC programme requirements, including the assessment and management of compensation events and their impact on scope, schedule and delivery.
  • Advanced understanding of DCMA schedule assessment principles and metrics.
  • Experience using Power BI or similar reporting tools to communicate schedule performance and delivery insights.
  • Professional planning, project controls or project management qualifications (e.g. APM, PMI-SP, PSP or equivalent).

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
