About FPF:
The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) is a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for privacy leadership and scholarship, advancing principled data practices in support of emerging technologies. FPF brings together industry, academics, consumer advocates, and other thought leaders to explore the challenges posed by technological innovation and develop privacy protections, ethical norms, and workable business practices.
FPF’s Global Policy team closely follows developments around the world in data protection, privacy and AI policy-making and regulation, supported by staff members in Washington, DC, Brussels, Singapore, Nairobi, and New Delhi. We keep our stakeholders informed of relevant regulatory changes, case-law, guidance, policies, and legal requirements, while also providing background and in-depth analysis in order to support them in being ahead of key developments globally.
General Overview:
FPF is seeking a temporary, part-time contractor to support the Global Policy team by monitoring, analyzing, and engaging with key data protection, privacy, and artificial intelligence policy developments across Latin America, with a particular focus on jurisdictions like Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.
This opening is for a part-time, fixed-term contract with an expected duration of approximately 6 months starting in late November 2026. The contractor is expected to dedicate 20 hours per week to this role. This role is ideal for mid-career professionals with demonstrated expertise in Latin American data protection laws, regional regulatory bodies, and emerging AI frameworks.
Candidates available to work in person in Washington DC will be considered with priority.
Key Responsibilities:
Track and analyze legal developments, legislative proposals, regulatory guidance, and enforcement actions related to privacy, data protection, and AI across Latin America (e.g., ANPD in Brazil, SIC in Colombia)
Draft brief policy memos, blog posts, and a monthly newsletter covering regional data governance trends for FPF members and external audiences
Assist with capacity building materials and training for policymakers and regulators, as needed
Coordinate closely with FPF’s Global Policy team to ensure Latin American policy insights are integrated into broader international initiatives
Preferred Qualifications:
JD, LLM, MA/MS, or equivalent degree with specialization in data protection, information law, or technology policy
Minimum 4-6 years of professional working experience
Subject-matter expertise in policy areas relevant to FPF’s work, including demonstrated knowledge of Latin American data protection law and familiarity with its application to new technologies, such as artificial intelligence
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal topics into accessible insights
An ability to work in a highly collaborative and diverse project-team environment, with colleagues from different jurisdictions and backgrounds
Proven ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid setting and manage time effectively under minimal supervision
Native or professional fluency in Spanish (Portuguese would be a plus)
