Brown & Brown is seeking a Policy Data Product Owner to join our growing team in Daytona Beach, FL!

The Policy Data Product Owner is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and enabling trusted enterprise policy, coverage, placement, premium, carrier, intermediary, renewal, and servicing data products within the gold layer of the medallion architecture. This role translates stakeholder needs across placement, account management, producer, finance, operations, carrier strategy, renewal management, and client analytics into a clear product vision, roadmap, prioritized backlog, acceptance criteria, quality standards, and adoption plan that support policy lifecycle intelligence, placement insights, retention analytics, carrier optimization, portfolio management, and self-service analytics.

The role partners closely with placement leadership, policy administration stakeholders, producers, account executives, account managers, carrier strategy teams, finance, operations, platform engineering teams, BI development teams, data governance, and downstream consumers to ensure Policy-domain data products are valuable, usable, accurate, well-documented, secure, scalable, and aligned to enterprise data standards. The role requires product ownership discipline, insurance policy-domain fluency, stakeholder management, prioritization skills, and the ability to connect policy lifecycle activity, coverage detail, carrier and intermediary relationships, premium and revenue measures, renewal behavior, placement outcomes, and servicing processes to measurable business value.

Primary Roles Required for the Team:

  • Policy Data Product Owner: Owns the strategy, roadmap, backlog, stakeholder alignment, adoption, and value realization for Policy-domain data products, including policy detail, policy transactions, coverage, premium, revenue, carrier, intermediary, placement, renewal, retention, insured, producer, office, line-of-business, and reference-data capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the Policy data product vision, strategy, roadmap, outcomes, release priorities, and value measures in partnership with placement leadership, policy administration stakeholders, carrier strategy, finance, operations, data engineering, BI, governance, and business stakeholders.
  • Own the prioritized backlog for Policy-domain datasets and insight products that integrate policy administration, policy transaction, coverage, premium, revenue, insured, producer, office, carrier, intermediary, line-of-business, and reference data across platforms such as AMS360, Epic, RiskMatch, BenefitPoint, BAM, Nova, and future policy administration sources.
  • Translate business problems, stakeholder needs, and reporting requirements into product features, user stories, acceptance criteria, standard metric definitions, release plans, and enablement materials that support executive reporting, operational insights, and stakeholder decision-making.
  • Define and steward Policy-domain metrics and analytical capabilities for active policy counts, written premium, billed premium, revenue, commission, fees, effective commission rate, policy term, effective and expiration dates, new business, renewal, endorsement, cancellation, lost business, retained business, carrier concentration, preferred carrier utilization, intermediary usage, direct versus intermediated placement, and portfolio movement.
  • Partner with upstream bronze and silver layer engineering teams to define source requirements, transformation rules, data quality expectations, business definitions, service-level needs, reconciliation methods, and delivery dependencies required to support the Policy data product roadmap.
  • Prioritize enhancement requests, defects, technical debt, data quality issues, adoption needs, source-system gaps, and stakeholder escalations based on business value, risk, feasibility, urgency, regulatory sensitivity, and alignment to Policy-domain outcomes.
  • Lead data validation and product acceptance by coordinating policy count reconciliation, premium and revenue tie-outs, policy lifecycle logic review, carrier and intermediary mapping validation, metric review, stakeholder signoff, defect triage, root cause investigation, and readiness decisions before release.
  • Coordinate resolution of Policy-domain data quality issues, including inconsistent client and insured identifiers, policy number variations, missing or stale coverage attributes, unclear effective or expiration date logic, inconsistent line-of-business and product mappings, carrier and intermediary hierarchy gaps, profit center mapping issues, RiskMatch naming conventions, and reporting discrepancies surfaced through dashboards or business feedback.
  • Create and maintain product documentation, including business requirements, user stories, metric definitions, data lineage summaries, decision logs, release notes, known limitations, adoption materials, and stakeholder signoff records.
  • Partner with BI, analytics, engineering, placement, finance, operations, and business teams to ensure dashboards, reports, analytical views, APIs, semantic models, and consumption experiences are aligned to standard policy definitions, user needs, product priorities, access controls, and Policy-domain decision workflows.
  • Own adoption and continuous improvement for policy and placement enablement products such as Policy Performance dashboards, Placement Insights dashboards, Carrier Scorecards, Digital Bluebook policy views, Retail Placement Agent recommendations, RevTrax inputs, renewal intelligence, retention analytics, coverage gap analysis, and future policy-domain recommendations delivered through Teams, email, CRM, BI, or other enterprise channels.
  • Lead release readiness, launch communications, stakeholder enablement, adoption tracking, data-quality feedback loops, and post-release improvement planning for Policy-domain data and analytical products.
  • Ensure Policy-domain data products comply with enterprise standards for data quality, security, traceability, privacy, access control, governance, retention, documentation, responsible use, and appropriate handling of policy, client, carrier, financial, and operational data.
  • Communicate product status, roadmap progress, delivery risks, adoption results, metric changes, source-system limitations, data-quality findings, release impacts, and value realization to stakeholders and leadership in a clear, actionable manner.

Required Education, Experience and Knowledge:

  • 3+ years of experience in data product ownership, product management, analytics product management, data analytics, policy administration analytics, placement analytics, insurance operations analytics, revenue analytics, or related roles; senior roles may require 5+ years.
  • Experience managing a product roadmap, prioritized backlog, user stories, acceptance criteria, release planning, stakeholder communications, and adoption activities for data, analytics, or business intelligence products.
  • Strong understanding of analytical data platforms, SQL concepts, data modeling, data quality, reporting architecture, and the data product lifecycle; hands-on technical depth is valuable, but this role is accountable for product outcomes rather than day-to-day engineering execution.
  • Experience owning or enabling reporting datasets, analytical data structures, business-facing data products, dashboards, scorecards, or self-service analytics capabilities.
  • Experience working with Policy-domain concepts such as policy detail, policy transactions, coverage, effective dates, expiration dates, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, written premium, billed premium, revenue, commission, fees, carrier hierarchy, intermediary relationships, line of business, product hierarchy, insured and client identifiers, producer attribution, office and profit center mapping, and policy lifecycle reporting.
  • Experience with AMS360, Epic, RiskMatch, BenefitPoint, BAM, Nova, policy administration systems, carrier and intermediary data, policy performance dashboards, placement insights, carrier scorecards, renewal reporting, or related insurance data products is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of data quality, documentation, testing, reconciliation, and requirements validation practices.
  • Ability to work with business stakeholders to clarify needs, make prioritization decisions, validate outcomes, explain tradeoffs, drive adoption, and ensure analytical products deliver measurable business value.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to investigate data issues, assess business impact, coordinate remediation, and balance short-term stakeholder needs with long-term product scalability.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to explain product direction, metric logic, roadmap priorities, release decisions, data limitations, and analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Education, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, information systems, analytics, statistics, business, or a related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Denodo, SQL-based platforms, or similar data engineering and analytics technologies.
  • Experience with data pipelines, data marts, transformation logic, medallion architecture patterns, data quality checks, or reporting-ready data structures.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, DataOps, version control, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release management for data assets.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, product discovery, delivery management, OKRs, value measurement, stakeholder governance, and product adoption practices.
  • Experience in insurance brokerage, policy administration, placement, carrier strategy, revenue operations, financial services, retail, or other enterprise-scale matrixed organizations where policy, coverage, premium, carrier, renewal, retention, and portfolio intelligence are core business priorities.
  • Familiarity with placement strategy, preferred carrier utilization, wholesale versus direct placement, carrier concentration, renewal management, policy lifecycle analytics, coverage gap identification, retention analytics, carrier scorecards, and adoption support for policy- and placement-facing analytical tools.

Success Measures:

  • Policy data product vision, roadmap, backlog, and release plans are clear, current, prioritized, and aligned to measurable business outcomes for policy lifecycle intelligence, placement insights, renewal management, carrier optimization, retention, and portfolio analytics.
  • Policy-domain datasets, dashboards, semantic models, scorecards, and analytical capabilities are trusted, adopted, documented, governed, and used consistently by placement, finance, operations, producer, account management, carrier strategy, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Data quality issues, delivery risks, dependencies, and stakeholder escalations are prioritized, tracked, communicated, and resolved with clear ownership and impact awareness.
  • Stakeholders have reliable, role-appropriate insight into active policies, policy lifecycle activity, written and billed premium, revenue, commission, fees, renewal timing, retention, lost business, carrier concentration, preferred carrier utilization, intermediary usage, and portfolio movement.
  • Policy-domain data assets reduce manual spreadsheet dependency, improve policy administration-to-reporting consistency, standardize business definitions, and enable scalable delivery of policy and placement insights through dashboards, Digital Bluebook views, Teams or email notifications, BI tools, and future agentic recommendations.
  • Policy-domain products reduce duplicated manual reporting, improve consistency of analysis across stakeholders, and create reusable capabilities that scale across policy administration, placement, renewal, retention, carrier, finance, and operational use cases.
  • Stakeholders understand the product roadmap, trust the metric definitions, adopt the delivered capabilities, and can connect the data product to improved Sales-domain decisions and business outcomes.
