THIS ROLE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SPONSORSHIP OR RELOCATION. WE ARE TARGETING CANDIDATES ALREADY LIVING IN THE NYC METRO AREA.

ILS EXPERIENCE OR INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE IS A REQUIREMENT.

Are you ready to sit at the intersection of natural catastrophe risk, capital markets, and institutional investment management? Swiss Re ILS is looking for a curious, analytically driven professional to join our Portfolio Management team in the heart of New York City. This is a rare opportunity to build deep expertise in one of the most dynamic and specialized asset classes in the market — insurance-linked securities (ILS).

About the Role

As a Portfolio Management Analyst, you will play a meaningful role across the full investment management process — from evaluating and underwriting individual ILS transactions to contributing to portfolio construction, quantitative research, and investor support. You'll work alongside experienced portfolio managers, catastrophe modelling specialists, and reinsurance experts, leveraging Swiss Re's proprietary risk models and unparalleled market knowledge to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns for institutional investors. If you thrive on complex problems, love working with data, and want to grow your career in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Analysis & Underwriting

Evaluate and underwrite ILS investment opportunities, including new catastrophe bond issuances, resets, and secondary market transactions

Analyze natural catastrophe exposures, catastrophe modelling outputs, and transaction structures to assess investment risks and relative value

Review underwriting information, exposure data, and contractual features, leveraging Swiss Re's proprietary risk models and underwriting expertise

Engage with internal specialists and external counterparties — including catastrophe modelling teams, brokers, and transaction parties — to support sound investment decisions

Portfolio Management

Contribute to investment selection, relative value assessments, and portfolio positioning across ILS strategies

Analyze portfolio performance, risk concentrations, and market developments to inform investment strategies

Support the implementation and ongoing management of investment strategies designed to meet institutional investor objectives

Quantitative Analysis & Investment Research

Develop and enhance analytical tools and models to support underwriting, investment selection, portfolio optimization, and trading

Conduct quantitative research on catastrophe risk, market pricing, and investment opportunities

Leverage data analytics and programming to improve investment processes, portfolio monitoring, and decision-making

Collaboration & Investor Support

Collaborate across Swiss Re teams — including portfolio managers and catastrophe modelling specialists — to leverage the Group's deep expertise

Support investor relations and business development by providing investment analysis, portfolio insights, and risk assessments

Contribute to investment materials and analytical content tailored for institutional investors

Foster a collaborative and entrepreneurial team culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation

About the Team

Swiss Re ILS is a third-party investment management business within Swiss Re's Alternative Capital Partners Group, managing insurance-linked securities portfolios on behalf of institutional investors. The Portfolio Management team oversees investment strategies focused on catastrophe bonds, industry loss warranties (ILW), quota shares, and other insurance-linked instruments. We combine Swiss Re's extensive natural catastrophe expertise, proprietary modelling capabilities, and deep reinsurance market knowledge with active investment management, quantitative analytics, and trading — all in a dynamic, fast-paced environment focused on delivering outstanding outcomes for our investors.

About You

You are an intellectually curious, analytically minded professional with a genuine passion for the intersection of natural catastrophe risk, insurance, and financial markets. You enjoy tackling complex problems, diving deep into data, and translating quantitative analysis into clear, actionable investment insights. You're a motivated self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment and is excited by the opportunity to grow across underwriting, investment analysis, portfolio management, and trading within a leading institutional investment management business.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative or analytical discipline such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, meteorology, economics, or finance

2+ years of relevant professional experience in investment management, ILS, reinsurance, catastrophe modelling, quantitative analysis, or a related field (a more senior candidate will also be considered)

Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to interpret complex data and modelling outputs

Experience with programming and data analytics, particularly Python; familiarity with SQL, Power BI, or similar tools is an advantage

Knowledge of or strong interest in natural catastrophe risk modelling, including the assessment of catastrophe exposures and loss distributions

These are additional nice to haves:

Exposure to institutional asset management or third-party investment management

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and present complex ideas clearly
