Role Description

The POS Backend Engineer (Java Spring Boot) role is a full-time, hybrid position based in Lekki, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services that power WayaBank’s POS and agency banking platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing transaction processing. Day-to-day activities include developing RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot, integrating with payment gateways and core banking services, and optimizing database interactions for reliability and speed. The engineer will collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers, and QA teams to define requirements, refine technical solutions, and resolve production issues. The role also involves writing clean, testable code, performing code reviews, implementing monitoring and logging, and contributing to continuous improvement of architecture and development practices.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills, with proficiency in Java and familiarity with modern development practices.
• Experience in Back-End Web Development, including RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
• Solid Software Development fundamentals, including version control (Git), testing, and CI/CD workflows.
• Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
• Basic understanding of Front-End Development concepts to collaborate effectively with frontend teams.
• Experience with Spring Boot, relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), and ORM frameworks.
• Background in financial services, payment processing, or POS systems is an advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup, communicate clearly, and collaborate in cross-functional teams.
