Job Description

This is a remote position.

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Architect to design, govern, and optimize enterprise-scale Power BI solutions within a complex global pharma environment.

The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on Power BI development expertise with architectural ownership, defining scalable semantic models, governance standards, deployment approaches, security models, and development best practices. You will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and IT teams to ensure that Power BI solutions are performant, maintainable, secure, and aligned with the wider enterprise data strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain enterprise Power BI solution architecture, including datasets, semantic models, reports, workspaces, security, and deployment standards.
  • Design scalable and reusable semantic/data models, applying dimensional modelling and Power BI modelling best practices.
  • Develop and review advanced DAX calculations, measures, calculation logic, and complex business KPIs.
  • Design and optimize data ingestion and transformation using Power Query, SQL, and multiple enterprise data sources.
  • Perform performance analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization of Power BI reports, datasets, DAX queries, refresh processes, and semantic models.
  • Define standards and best practices for Power BI Service, including workspace architecture, administration, governance, capacity utilization, and report lifecycle management.
  • Design and implement robust security models, including Row-Level Security (RLS), access controls, workspace permissions, and data governance requirements.
  • Define deployment, release management, and environment strategies across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Establish development standards around Power BI Project (PBIP), Git-based source control, versioning, branching, and collaborative development.
  • Support implementation of CI/CD and automated deployment practices for Power BI solutions.
  • Review existing Power BI environments and identify opportunities for standardization, consolidation, scalability, and performance improvements.
  • Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand analytics requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Provide architectural guidance, technical reviews, and best-practice recommendations to Power BI developers and analytics teams.
  • Contribute to the overall BI and analytics strategy, governance framework, and technology roadmap.

Requirements

  • Advanced expertise in data modelling and semantic model architecture.
  • Expert-level knowledge of DAX, including complex calculations and performance optimization.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power Query / M.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience integrating data from diverse enterprise data sources.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, star schemas, relationships, cardinality, and model optimization.
  • Proven experience with Power BI performance tuning, including DAX optimization, model size reduction, refresh optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Deep knowledge of Power BI Service, including:
    • Workspaces
    • Apps
    • Gateways
    • Dataset / semantic model management
    • Capacity management
    • Refresh strategies

  • Experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and enterprise data access controls.
  • Strong understanding of Power BI governance, security, compliance, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience designing deployment and release strategies for enterprise Power BI solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI Project (PBIP).
  • Experience with Git, source control, branching, versioning, and collaborative Power BI development.
  • Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices within a Power BI / analytics environment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.
