Power System Studies Engineer — Grid Connection & Grid Code Compliance

About the role

You will work within our power-system studies team on grid connection and grid code compliance studies for generation plants (CCGT, PV, wind, BESS) connecting to transmission networks in the GCC, Egypt and Africa. You will model the plant, run the studies, write the reports and support them through review by the transmission system operator (TSO) until approval. You report to the Lead Power Systems Engineer and work directly with EPC contractors, OEMs and developers.

What you will do

• Build and integrate plant models (generators, transformers, auxiliaries, controllers) into TSO network cases in PSS/E and PSCAD; prepare and benchmark PowerFactory models (A MUST)
• Run the study scope: load flow, short circuit, transient and small-signal stability, SSO (SSTI/SSCI), power quality (harmonics, flicker, unbalance), EMT (insulation co-ordination, TRV, ferroresonance, energisation) and load-sensitivity studies with HVDC / STATCOM / BESS where applicable
• Develop and validate user-defined controller models (AVR, PSS, governor) from OEM data across PSS/E, PSCAD and PowerFactory
• Define study-case matrices and acceptance criteria against the applicable grid code
• Write clear English technical reports, compliance matrices and model documentation
• Respond to TSO and client review comments and contribute to obtaining study approvals
• Support model validation with commissioning test data

What you bring

• 3+ years in power system studies, with hands-on contribution to grid-compliance study packages submitted to a TSO
• Working proficiency in at least two of PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory
• Understanding of synchronous machine dynamics and control systems (AVR, PSS, governor, FRT logic)
• Experience reading OEM datasheets and block diagrams and turning them into models
• Fluent written English; your reports go to the client without rewriting

This is a team role — we don’t expect one person to cover everything. Experience in all or some of the following is what we’re looking for:

• UDM / DSL development; Python scripting for PSS/E or PowerFactory automation
• SSO / EMT studies with HVDC or inverter-based resources
• Grid codes and TSO review processes
