ABOUT JSM
JSM Group designs and builds the power networks and digital infrastructure that clients across the UK, Europe and beyond depend on, from high-voltage grid connections and critical utilities to data centres and renewable energy. Our civil, power and digital engineers work under one roof, giving clients one team from design to energisation, with the technical, commercial and consenting risk managed from day one.
Belonging here isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Our values of personal responsibility, sound judgment, and drive shape how we work, and you’ll get work that stretches you and support to develop fast. See life at JSM at careers.jsmgroup.com.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Pre-Construction team at our head office in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, the team that plans and prepares our utilities projects before work starts on site. You'll work day-to-day with the Planning Manager and project managers, and your drawings will carry each project from pre-construction through to handover.
THE ROLE
You'll provide the CAD service for the Pre-Construction team, producing the drawings and diagrams each project needs to move from planning into construction, and helping compile the documents needed for a clean handover to the client.
What you'll do
• Produce red-line, trial trench and trial hole, and traffic management drawings for projects in pre-construction
• Prepare multi-utility diversion works design drawings to client specification
• Carry out as-built surveys, recording points with handheld digital GPS devices
• Interpret data from the GPS web portal to create client as-built drawings
• Compile handover documentation with the Planning Manager and project managers, making sure every drawing is delivered on time and to client specs
Good to know: based at our Potters Bar head office, with travel within mainland UK when needed, including for as-built surveys.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential
• Experience as a CAD Technician, producing design and detailing drawings in AutoCAD
• City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD), as a minimum
• Strong organisation and time management — you can prioritise your own workload and work alone or as part of a team
• Confidence with Microsoft Office (intermediate level) and mobile apps on iOS and Android
• The right to work in the UK — our ability to offer visa sponsorship is very limited
Nice to have
• Experience producing drawings in a pre-construction or design team, ideally for utilities, multi-utility or highways projects
• Experience using GPS survey equipment or web-based survey data portals
You'll thrive here if you
• Take ownership of your work and your development
• Have a keen eye for detail and process, and can adapt when priorities change
• Know that good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction
• Are confident and straight with project managers and site teams about programme — especially under pressure
Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of — not just the list.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Pay & reward — competitive salary, performance-linked bonus and car allowance (where applicable), 4% matched pension
• Time off — 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
• Health & wellbeing — BUPA health cash plan, Benenden Health, employee assistance programme
• Career growth — funded training through our Training Centre and Competency Cloud, professional memberships and support to keep developing
• Extras — electric car salary-sacrifice scheme

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
