Are you passionate about baking and decorating? Wilton’s school, the Wilton Sweet Studio, is seeking a part-time assistant to join our creative team! Under the guidance of the Executive Pastry Chef, this role is essential in ensuring the Sweet Studio operates seamlessly. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy, baking, decorating, and all things sweet, this position is the perfect fit for you!
This is a part-time role, approximately 25 hours per week, including Saturdays. Saturday availability is highly preferred. If this is the only scheduling conflict, flexibility may be considered for an otherwise qualified candidate.
Ingredients
- Prepare materials for classes, including:
- Baking cake layers, cookies, and other class components according to recipes and instructions.
- Accurately mise en place materials for pastry classes, including calculating and scaling ingredient quantities based on recipes and class enrollment.
- Preparing, coloring, portioning, and storing buttercream, royal icing, and other class ingredients.
- Assembling student material kits and treat boxes.
- Creating and printing student nametags.
- Assist with baking classes as needed, including monitoring ovens and supporting instructors during class preparation and execution.
- Follow all Wilton Sweet Studio procedures, food safety standards, and operational guidelines.
- Label, date, organize, and properly store ingredients, baked goods, class materials, and supplies.
- Set up classroom stations according to class specifications and instructor needs.
- Greet and check in students and provide classroom support as needed.
- Reset classrooms between classes and remove materials after class completion.
- Clean up after classes, including washing dishes, loading/unloading the dishwasher, and maintaining classroom cleanliness.
- Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and overall kitchen and studio maintenance.
- Ensure the kitchen, classrooms, and storage areas remain clean, organized, and well-maintained.
- Monitor inventory levels, receive deliveries, organize supplies, and notify manager when materials are running low.
- Set up and remove studio welcome signs and other class-related displays.
- Demonstrate flexibility by assisting with studio operations and additional tasks as assigned.
Equipment
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous baking experience preferred (home or commercial kitchen, culinary classes, etc.)
Instructions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow instructions accurately, and respond well to direction.
- Excellent customer service & communication skills.
- Understanding the basics of food safety.
- Basic baking math/computation skills with a strong attention to detail when measuring ingredients and following recipes.
- An awareness of the importance of general food safety standards.
Baking Conditions
- Routinely use standard office equipment such as (laptop computers, monitors/keyboards, printers, and telephones).
- Processes information and communicates effectively with others.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for several hours at a time.
- Ability to move up to 30 pounds.
- Must submit to and pass a DCFS (non-licensed program) background check as a condition of employment.
