Principal AI Engineer

We are looking for a Principal AI Engineer to serve as the ultimate technical authority across end-to-end AI lifecycles, driving advanced Generative AI and MLOps strategies for enterprise systems. If you are ready to architect production-grade Agentic AI, high-throughput RAG implementations, and scalable cloud platforms, this 12-month hybrid/remote contract role (with option to renew) is built for you.

As the Principal AI Engineer, you will set the technical direction and design standards for enterprise-grade AI applications. You will oversee the end-to-end integration of LLMs into core workflows while establishing robust cloud environments, MLOps practices, and governance frameworks.

The Tech Stack Deep-Dive

Must-Haves:

• Generative AI & LLMs: Agentic AI workflows, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), Large Language Model (LLM) orchestration, and NLP systems.
• Architecture & Infrastructure: Enterprise Solution Architecture, Cloud AI platforms, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and AI development environments.
• MLOps & DevOps: Advanced AI DevOps (MLOps) capabilities, automated pipelines, and model registry standards.
• Technical Governance: Technical Design Specs, Architecture Documentation, and model risk/security controls.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience in regulated industries (e.g., financial services) and data privacy frameworks such as POPIA.
• Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) and predictive machine learning pipeline design.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead System Architecture: Design end-to-end architecture and technical design specifications for GenAI, RAG, Agentic AI, and ML systems.
• Drive MLOps & IaC: Guide the establishment of cloud AI environments, Infrastructure-as-Code, and automated MLOps capabilities.
• Integrate Enterprise LLMs: Oversee the seamless integration of Large Language Models into internal systems and critical workflows.
• Define Technical Standards: Establish governance controls, security protocols, and architecture standards across all AI initiatives.
