Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Cloud & Enterprise Architecture Lead to drive the design and implementation of secure, scalable, cloud-first technology solutions across a complex enterprise environment. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across cloud platforms, enterprise integration, identity and access management, security architecture, DevSecOps, data services, and architecture governance.
This role will act as a trusted adviser to executives, delivery teams, and security stakeholders, ensuring technology investments align with strategic objectives while meeting operational, security, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Leadership
- Lead the development of enterprise, solution, and cloud architectures.
- Produce and govern High-Level Designs (HLDs), Detailed Designs (DLDs), reference architectures, and reusable design patterns.
- Define future-state architectures and technology roadmaps.
- Establish architecture standards and governance frameworks.
Cloud & Platform Strategy
- Design secure and resilient Azure and AWS cloud solutions.
- Lead cloud migration, modernization, and hybrid cloud initiatives.
- Define architecture patterns for enterprise platforms, digital services, and data ecosystems.
- Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation.
Security & Compliance
- Embed Secure-by-Design and Zero Trust principles across solutions.
- Ensure alignment with Essential Eight, ISM, PSPF, NIST, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical leadership across IAM, SSO, MFA, OAuth, PKI, API security, and cloud security controls.
- Collaborate closely with cyber security and risk teams.
Enterprise Integration
- Define API-first and event-driven integration architectures.
- Lead integration strategy across enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and external partners.
- Establish standards for API management, messaging, microservices, and streaming platforms.
DevSecOps & Engineering Excellence
- Champion CI/CD, DevSecOps, and automated governance practices.
- Support engineering teams with architecture guidance and quality assurance.
- Promote observability, monitoring, resilience, and operational readiness.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with executives, business leaders, architects, vendors, and delivery teams.
- Facilitate architecture reviews, workshops, and design decisions.
- Provide mentoring and technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
Architecture
- 15+ years of ICT experience with at least 8 years in architecture leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise and cloud architectures in large regulated environments.
- Strong experience producing architecture artefacts and governance documentation.
Cloud
- Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure.
- Strong experience with AWS architecture and services.
- Experience with cloud migration and hybrid-cloud environments.
Integration
- API-first architecture.
- Enterprise integration and middleware platforms.
- Event-driven architectures using Kafka or equivalent technologies.
- REST, SOAP, and microservices design.
Security
- Identity and access management solutions.
- Zero Trust architecture.
- Enterprise security frameworks and government security controls.
- Application, network, and cloud security architecture.
DevOps
- Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, or equivalent tooling.
- Infrastructure as Code.
- CI/CD and automated deployment pipelines.
Desirable Qualifications
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
- TOGAF, SABSA, or equivalent architecture certification.
- Experience within Australian Government, Defence, Financial Services, or critical infrastructure sectors.
- Experience delivering AI, analytics, or enterprise data platform solutions.
