This role sets the architecture standards, automation strategy, and compliance-aligned operating model for regulated customer environments, serves as the top technical escalation point for the practice, and acts as the technical lead for pre-sales engagements.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in at least one government cloud platform with working knowledge of another, a strong Infrastructure as Code and automation background, hands-on experience applying Government security frameworks, and the ability to mentor and grow a team of engineers.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the technical lead and escalation point for Government Cloud Managed Services across Microsoft Azure Government / Azure GCC High, AWS GovCloud (US), and Google Cloud.
- Define and maintain reference architectures, secure landing zone standards, and operational patterns for regulated Government customer environments.
- Lead the design and delivery of Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), automation, and CI/CD pipelines that standardize customer onboarding, deployment, and day-to-day operations across clouds.
- Translate Government compliance requirements, including FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CMMC, DISA STIGs, and CIS Benchmarks, into implementable controls, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Participate in pre-sales technical engagements, including discovery, solution design, architecture input, effort estimation, scopes of work, proposals, and presentations.
- Lead customer design workshops, architecture reviews, and operational readiness reviews for onboarding and transition into Managed Services.
- Oversee complex implementations, migrations, upgrades, and modernization efforts through operational handoff and service onboarding.
- Participate in on-call rotation, provide escalation support for critical incidents, and lead root cause analysis and preventative actions.
- Follow and strengthen incident, change, problem, request, and knowledge management processes within the ITSM platform (ServiceNow).
- Drive resiliency, capacity, performance, backup and disaster recovery, and cost optimization across customer environments.
- Maintain trusted advisor relationships with Government customers and account teams, and communicate technical strategy, risks, and solution direction to customers and CDW leadership.
- Mentor senior and consulting engineers, guiding solution design, engineering practices, and cross-training across cloud platforms.
- Develop practice standards, runbooks, reusable templates, architecture documentation, and training materials for customers and internal teams.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, Project Management, Security, Legal and Contracts, and cloud provider partners to develop and grow Government Cloud Managed Services offerings and identify growth opportunities.
- Research emerging government cloud, security, and automation technologies and regulatory changes, including the evolving FedRAMP program, and present recommendations.
What We Expect of You
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of IT engineering experience supporting cloud, infrastructure, systems, networking, or platform engineering OR 14+ years of IT engineering experience supporting cloud, infrastructure, systems, networking, or platform engineering.
- Minimum 8+ years of IT engineering experience supporting one or more cloud, hybrid infrastructure, platform, automation, security, monitoring, database, network, systems, or service management solutions.
- 3+ years of experience with large, cross-brand Managed Services projects.
- Experience designing and operating cloud environments aligned with Government security frameworks, including FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CMMC, DISA STIGs, and CIS Benchmarks.
- Advanced experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), scripting, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience aligning technical solutions to business outcomes and developing technical roadmaps, architecture documentation, project plans, and schedules for complex initiatives.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead critical escalations.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, including executive-level interaction, and the ability to build trusted customer relationships.
- Ability to mentor and lead technical teams and manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
- Certain customer workloads (for example, those involving ITAR or CUI data) may require U.S. citizenship.
- Experience supporting public sector (Federal, DoD, State and Local Government, or Education) cloud environments strongly preferred.
- Deep, hands-on expertise in at least one government cloud platform (Microsoft Azure Government / Azure GCC High, AWS GovCloud (US), or Google Cloud Assured Workloads) and working knowledge of a second major cloud platform, strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting Azure GCC High or CMMC-regulated customers, a plus.
- Professional-level certifications in two or more of Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, and published case studies, white papers, reference architectures, or technical thought leadership, a plus.
