We have brought together a team of 180 consultants and engineers with deep expertise across asset management, intelligent mobility, smart technology, and digital and data solutions within the transport environment. This newly formed, externally facing business is designed to align closely with our clients' evolving needs, while creating fresh opportunities for our people to grow, develop, and thrive as part of a collaborative and innovative practice.

As a Principal Consultant in our Intelligent Mobility team, you'll play a leading role in helping clients navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging transport technologies, digital transformation and intelligent transport systems. Working closely with organisations such as National Highways, local authorities and transport operators, you'll combine technical expertise with commercial insight to identify, develop and deliver innovative solutions. You'll build trusted relationships with clients and partners, provide thought leadership across assurance, technology and testing programmes, and help shape winning strategies that support the growth of our IT&I practice.

Your Role

• This role combines technical leadership, client engagement, business development and project delivery, supporting the continued growth of our Intelligent Mobility service offering across the UK.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners and key stakeholders, becoming a trusted advisor across Intelligent Mobility, transport technology and digital transformation programmes.
• Leverage knowledge of National Highways, its operating environment and supply chain to identify opportunities and support successful project delivery.
• Identify, develop and convert opportunities both within existing accounts and across new clients, contributing to the growth of the Intelligent Mobility portfolio.
• Lead and support the development of winning bids and business cases, shaping innovative propositions and delivery models that meet client needs and differentiate AtkinsRéalis in the market.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance across Intelligent Mobility projects, drawing on expertise in areas such as assurance, technology delivery, testing and business analysis.
• Develop and implement partnership strategies with technology providers, consultants and delivery partners to enhance client outcomes and create new business opportunities.
• Support multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes, fostering collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
• Act as a visible leader within the Intelligent Mobility team, mentoring colleagues and sharing knowledge to build capability and strengthen our technical reputation.

About you

• Strong understanding of National Highways' organisation, priorities, procurement routes, and delivery environment, with the ability to align opportunities and solutions to strategic objectives.
• Proven business development capability, identifying, developing, and converting new opportunities while expanding relationships across clients, sectors, and markets.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, capable of building credibility, influence, and trusted partnerships at all organisational levels.
• Demonstrable technical credibility in assurance, intelligent mobility technologies, systems testing, business analysis, digital transformation, or related disciplines.
• Experience leading successful bids and proposals, with strong commercial awareness and an understanding of the factors that differentiate winning submissions and support growth strategies.
• Proven ability to develop and implement partnering strategies, creating collaborative relationships across clients, suppliers, technology providers, and delivery partners.
• Innovative and forward-thinking approach, developing creative delivery models, exploring new ways of working, and enhancing client value through continuous improvement.
• Proactive results-driven leader and mentor, experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams, driving outcomes, inspiring colleagues, and supporting the development of junior consultants and emerging talent.

Security clearance
