The Opportunity Ulteig's Consulting practice helps clients solve complex strategic, technical, and operational challenges across the Power, Renewables, Transportation, and Water sectors. The Principal Consultant, Power is a senior seller-doer who will build and grow Ulteig's Power consulting services while personally leading high-value client engagements. This individual combines deep power-industry expertise, strong commercial instincts, and trusted client relationships to identify needs, shape solutions, win work, and deliver measurable outcomes. Working across Consulting and the Power Lifeline Sector, the Principal Consultant will expand expand advisory and planning services that support clients during early-stage project and investment decisions while still complimenting Ulteig's established engineering and delivery strengths. The overall consulting strategy and vision for Ulteig are established through Consulting and Sector leadership. This role is responsible for executing that vision within the Power sector by helping determine service priorities, market focus areas, and client solutions based on evolving customer needs. What You’ll Do Execute and advance Ulteig's consulting strategy within the Power sector by identifying client needs, developing service offerings, and delivering advisory engagements that support established business objectives Originate and win consulting work by developing relationships, identifying opportunities, leading pursuit strategies, and converting client challenges into well-defined engagements Maintain accountability for developing a consulting opportunity pipeline and consulting revenue growth through strategic client relationships, repeat business, and expansion of advisory services across the Power sector Serve as a trusted advisor to utility, developer, large-load, public power, cooperative, and other energy-sector clients, engaging senior decision-makers on complex business and technical issues Define the client engagement strategy and project execution approach, then lead complex consulting engagements from discovery and scoping through analysis, recommendations, executive communication, and implementation support Provide consultative leadership across power-system strategy, transmission and distribution planning, grid modernization, capital prioritization, generation and load growth, interconnection, and related advisory services In partnership with Power Sector leadership, develop and scale consulting services such as load-growth and generation planning, transmission planning, large-load advisory, grid-enhancing technologies strategy, and portfolio planning services Identify and evaluate emerging market opportunities, translating client needs and industry trends into consulting offerings that support Power sector growth priorities Connect strategy and advisory work to project development and delivery, including interconnection studies, owner's engineering, large-load advisory, substation and T&D design, SCADA and automation, and field services Develop and enhance consulting frameworks, methodologies, and delivery standards that improve engagement quality and support repeatable consulting execution Lead proposals, scopes, pricing, negotiations, and contracting in partnership with account managers, business development, legal, finance, and technical leaders Build and lead multidisciplinary teams, providing clear technical direction, coaching emerging consultants, and drawing on expertise across Ulteig to deliver integrated solutions Build Ulteig's market presence through industry participation, client engagement, thought leadership, speaking opportunities, and professional networks Manage engagement and portfolio performance, including quality, risk, client satisfaction, schedule, budget, and resource planning; anticipate delivery challenges and lead timely issue resolution Create pull-through opportunities that expand Ulteig's broader service offerings by connecting consulting engagements to project development, engineering, program management, and long-term implementation support Provide market insights and client perspectives to executive leadership and sector leaders to inform strategic planning and investment decisions Disclaimer: The preceding description is not designed to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities required of this position. What We Expect from You Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited institution 12 or more years of progressively responsible experience in the power, electric utility, energy infrastructure, or related consulting industry At least 10 years of direct, client-facing experience working with utility, developer, large-load, public power, cooperative, investor, or other energy-sector customers Demonstrated seller-doer success, including building trusted relationships, developing a qualified pipeline, winning work, and personally leading delivery High technical aptitude and recognized expertise in one or more power-industry domains, with the breadth to connect technical findings to business, regulatory, financial, and operational decisions Experience managing significant, complex advisory or engineering engagements involving power-system planning, grid modernization, transmission and distribution, generation, interconnection, large loads, capital programs, or owner's engineering Proven ability to define and launch new consulting services, including market positioning, delivery methods, staffing models, pricing, and quality standards Demonstrated success identifying emerging client needs, developing differentiated service offerings, and creating new sources of revenue growth in the power industry Strong commercial and project-management capabilities, including scoping, estimating, contracting, financial performance, risk management, and executive-level client communication Excellent analytical, facilitation, writing, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to make complex technical information clear and actionable Working knowledge of applicable utility business models, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and regional market structures; familiarity with NERC and FERC requirements is desired Professional Engineer licensure is desired; an advanced degree in engineering, business, finance, or a related field is also desired Recognized industry professional with a demonstrated ability to influence client decisions, develop trusted relationships, and contribute to power-sector growth initiatives Experience presenting industry insights, client success stories, or technical expertise to clients, conferences, professional organizations, or peer groups is preferred Industry publications, articles, white papers, or other thought leadership contributions are preferred Participation in industry organizations, technical committees, advisory boards, or professional associations is preferred Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted advisor to clients and stakeholders on complex power-sector issues Ability to travel in the U.S. and Canada up to 25% Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S As you consider applying for a position at Ulteig, we encourage you to think outside the box – because we do!
