About This Opportunity
Lead the digital blueprint of The University of Queensland.
UQ’s campuses bring together heritage buildings, contemporary teaching spaces, world-class research facilities and complex infrastructure. Behind every project, asset decision and operational plan is a critical layer of digital information that must be accurate, accessible and built for the future.
As Principal Digital Modelling Officer, you will lead UQ’s Digital Modelling Office and shape how built-environment information is created, governed, connected and used across our diverse property portfolio.
This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on BIM and digital engineering expertise with strategic influence and people leadership. You will set the direction for UQ’s digital modelling capability, lead a collaborative specialist team and work closely with senior leaders, project teams, consultants and contractors to improve the quality and value of our property information.
Your work will directly support capital projects, campus operations, asset management and long-term planning, helping UQ make smarter, more confident decisions about its built environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the University’s digital modelling and built-environment information management function, establishing priorities, service plans and resource strategies that respond to current and future organisational needs.
- Develop and continuously improve standards, policies, procedures and governance arrangements for BIM, CAD, mapping, drafting, project information handover and associated digital workflows.
- Oversee the quality assurance, validation, integration and maintenance of drawings, floor plans, maps, surveys, reality-capture information and digital models, ensuring information remains accurate, accessible and fit for operational use.
- Provide specialist and strategic advice to senior leaders, project teams, consultants and contractors, while leading staff, technology initiatives, process improvements and service transformation.
About You
You are an experienced BIM, digital engineering or built-environment information leader who can move confidently between detailed technical work and strategic organisational conversations.
You understand that digital models are more than project deliverables. They are valuable operational assets that support better planning, safer delivery and more informed decision-making throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Degree qualifications in a relevant discipline and extensive subsequent experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and substantial management expertise.
- Demonstrated experience leading a significant digital modelling, built-environment information management, property, infrastructure or comparable specialist function in a complex organisation.
- Advanced knowledge and practical experience in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, supported by substantial expertise in contemporary BIM, CAD, digital engineering and structured asset information.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining BIM and CAD standards, digital handover processes, policies, governance frameworks and information-management practices.
- Experience undertaking quality assurance, model validation and the integration of built-environment information with operational or asset management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead specialist technical staff, set priorities, manage workloads and resources, develop capability and guide teams through operational or technological change.
- Experience leading projects, procurements, technology implementations, automation, process improvement or service-transformation initiatives.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide strategic advice, influence senior stakeholders and make complex technical and service-delivery decisions.
