Position Overview
At Autodesk, we empower our customers to make anything. As AI reshapes how people create, design, and work, we are advancing the next generation of Autodesk Assistant experiences across our products. Delivering a cohesive, high-quality experience at this scale requires exceptional program management embedded directly in the work.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Experience Program Manager to join the AEC Experience Foundations organization. This role will be deeply embedded with the Autodesk Assistant design team, working alongside designers and leadership to drive the day-to-day program, maintain clarity on priorities, and ensure work moves fluidly through the broader product development process.
You will be the connective tissue between Design and its partners across Product Management, Research, Engineering, Analytics, Content, and the broader Autodesk design ecosystem. You will participate directly in the team’s working rhythms, build a substantive understanding of the work, and connect signals across plans, decisions, dependencies, and teams. This is not a role focused simply on facilitating meetings or tracking milestones. Success requires understanding what the milestones mean, anticipating the impact of change, identifying risk early, and proactively bringing the right people together to keep the program moving.
Reporting to the Director of Experience Operations, you will work as part of a broader program management and operations team while remaining dedicated to Autodesk Assistant. You will also partner closely with operations leads to identify friction in the development process and help evolve the practices that enable Design to contribute effectively at scale in a rapidly changing AI landscape.
Responsibilities
- Drive the day-to-day design program for Autodesk Assistant, maintaining clear priorities, milestones, dependencies, capacity, design readiness, decisions, status, and risks across a complex, multi-product environment
- Embed directly with designers and design leadership across planning sessions, stand-ups, design critiques, reviews, and share-outs; ensure these working rhythms are purposeful, effective, and evolve with the needs of the team
- Build a deep working understanding of the program so you can connect decisions and signals across teams, identify downstream implications, surface conflicts or gaps, and proactively bring the right partners together to resolve them
- Create strong connectivity between Design and Product Management, ensuring the design team has clear and current product priorities, roadmap context, requirements, and decision inputs needed to focus its work effectively
- Coordinate design work through the broader product development process, partnering closely with Research, Engineering, Analytics, Content, and other program partners to ensure requirements, insights, dependencies, and deliverables move fluidly through the system
- Anticipate program risks and friction before they become late-stage surprises; communicate impacts clearly, escalate through design leadership and the broader program team as appropriate, and drive follow-through on decisions and actions
- Partner with Experience Operations and program counterparts to identify opportunities to improve development processes, team ceremonies, tools, and ways of working based on direct experience with the team and the work
- Help the team balance near-term delivery with longer-term experience goals, supporting predictable execution while maintaining consistency and cohesion across Autodesk Assistant experiences
- Keep user needs visible in product-development decisions by connecting research, analytics, and design intent into the program and making experience trade-offs explicit when business or technical constraints require them
- Use AI fluently in your own work to improve quality and efficiency, and help identify opportunities for AI-enabled practices to increase the quality, scalability, and effectiveness of the design and product development process
- Navigate Autodesk’s highly matrixed environment with urgency and initiative, building strong relationships across product teams, shared platforms, and the Autodesk design ecosystem, including partnership with the Weave design system team
Minimum Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience in program management, design program management, product operations, or related roles supporting complex digital product development
- Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional programs in large, matrixed organizations or similarly complex environments
- Demonstrated ability to operate as an embedded program manager: close enough to the work to understand its substance, dependencies, and implications while maintaining the program systems required for reliable execution
- Strong hands-on program management skills, including planning, milestone and dependency management, capacity and readiness tracking, risk management, decision tracking, status communication, and escalation
- Working fluency with design and research processes, including design systems, prototypes, critical user journeys, qualitative research, testing, and the role of insight in product development. Design craft expertise is not required
- Ability to work effectively with Product Management and Engineering partners and to understand technical constraints and concepts at the level needed to investigate implications, communicate dependencies, and connect technical decisions to the broader program
- AI fluency, including regular use of AI tools to improve personal effectiveness and a demonstrated curiosity about how AI can improve product development practices, design workflows, quality, and scale
- Excellent communication and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate complex and changing information into clear priorities, plans, risks, decisions, and executive-ready updates
- Strong bias toward action, sense of urgency, sound judgment, and the ability to proactively build the relationships and context needed to move work forward
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent practical experience
- Is a program manager at their core: proactive, deeply engaged in the work, and motivated by making complex teams and programs function exceptionally well
- Understands the difference between tracking a milestone and understanding it, including why it matters, what it depends on, and what changes when it moves
- Builds a mental map of the organization and knows how to find the right person, context, or decision quickly rather than waiting for direction
- Is comfortable operating in ambiguity and rapid change, particularly in AI product development, while still creating enough structure for teams to execute predictably
- Can move easily between detailed program mechanics and the broader product and experience context without losing sight of either
- Brings a user-centered mindset to program decisions and helps ensure research, analytics, and experience quality remain part of the conversation alongside business and technical considerations
- Brings adaptability and initiative: sees what needs attention, connects the right people, and follows through until the issue is resolved
- Operates with low ego and high accountability, partnering effectively within a larger program management and operations team rather than working as a standalone function
