Show job description

MOS Mining Consultancy is a global advisory firm that helps mining companies optimize operations, improve efficiency, and unlock hidden business value. Established in 2022, the firm supports clients across the mining cycle, from studies and planning through operational execution and productivity improvements. MOS Mining combines technical expertise, strategic guidance, and embedded specialist support, integrating real-world experience with data-driven insights. With a global perspective applied to local mining environments, the team focuses on practical solutions that deliver measurable value. Career mining professionals at MOS Mining work both remotely and on-site, partnering with client teams to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.

We're looking for an experienced Principal Mining Engineer to lead mining studies and senior technical work across our consulting portfolio. You'll own studies from scoping through to feasibility, run multidisciplinary teams, and be the technical lead that clients, boards and investors rely on.

This role is mainly study and advisory work: scoping studies, PFS and FS, mine optimisation, Ore Reserve support, and technical due diligence. It also includes site visits and, where it suits you, corporate based secondments. You can be based anywhere in Australia and travel when needed, and international assignments may come up for those who want them.

This role suits someone who combines technical depth with sound commercial judgement and takes ownership of the result. We're here to solve problems and add value for our clients, not to play office games.

About You

You're an experienced engineer who is:

  • A proven study lead who has managed scoping, PFS and/or FS-level studies through to delivery
  • Strong in mine design, scheduling and optimisation, and able to defend the mine plan, cost inputs and economics in front of a client or investor
  • Experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams (geology, geotech, processing, infrastructure, cost estimation) and managing scope, budget and timeline
  • Skilled with Deswik (CAD, Sched and ideally Pseudoflow or LHS); proficiency is a must
  • Backed by solid operational site experience, so your studies are practical and buildable
  • Experienced in open pit, underground or open pit to underground transitions; experience across several of these is highly regarded
  • Familiar with JORC reporting; Competent Person status for Ore Reserves is a plus (not essential)
  • Client-oriented and a clear communicator, in both reports and the boardroom
  • A believer in strong safety culture and professional integrity
  • Legally able to work in Australia (sponsor option available)

What We Offer

  • Ownership of studies from start to finish, without layers of sign-off
  • Exposure to diverse commodities, mining methods, clients and stages of project development
  • Flexible employment, or contractor arrangements tailored to you
  • High autonomy: you manage your own work and time
  • Remuneration significantly above market, in line with your capability and the impact you deliver
  • The ability to live anywhere in Australia
  • Corporate secondment and international opportunities for those interested

Who This Role Is Not For

This isn't a role for someone who wants to hand off the hard calls. It's for senior engineers who have led studies before, are comfortable owning the outcome, and thrive on being trusted to deliver without micromanagement. If you'd rather stay purely in design work and not manage people, scope or clients, this likely isn't the right fit.

Apply

If you want to lead meaningful studies, work across a range of projects and have a real say in how they're delivered, we'd love to hear from you.

Send your CV and a short note telling us what you're after. No formal cover letter needed – we prefer straight talk. (admin@mosmining.com)
