Principal Network Engineer
Location: Remote – United States
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Principal Network Engineer is a senior technical expert responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting complex enterprise network and security environments. This role provides technical leadership for network initiatives across on-premises, cloud, data center, and hybrid environments while ensuring reliability, security, scalability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support scalable and highly available LAN, WAN, data center, cloud, and hybrid network environments.
- Provide advanced technical expertise in BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN, VXLAN/EVPN, VPN, QoS, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Implement and support Azure/cloud networking and hybrid connectivity solutions.
- Lead complex network troubleshooting, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis.
- Participate in network architecture, technology evaluation, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Develop and maintain network standards, configuration templates, diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Implement network security, segmentation, resiliency, and performance improvements.
- Analyze network performance, capacity, and traffic patterns and recommend optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate with Cloud, Security, Infrastructure, Application, and Operations teams on complex technical solutions.
- Work with network vendors, carriers, and technology partners to resolve technical issues and deliver network solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to network engineers.
- Support large-scale network projects from design through implementation and operational handoff.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise networking and network security.
- Strong experience with LAN/WAN, cloud networking, data center, SD-WAN, and hybrid environments.
- Advanced knowledge of routing, switching, network security, and network troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Azure or other major cloud platforms.
- Experience with enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network monitoring tools.
- Strong experience troubleshooting complex network and connectivity issues.
- Experience leading network projects and providing technical leadership.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Certifications
- CCNP / CCIE or equivalent
- Microsoft Azure networking certifications
- AWS or Google Cloud networking certifications
- Other relevant networking or security certifications
