Position Overview
Ashley Digital is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to own infrastructure, reliability, and delivery pipelines for our digital experience ecosystem — including our core ecommerce platform and the broader web traffic, CDN, and routing layers that serve our customers. This role combines hands-on infrastructure ownership with DevOps leadership and Site Reliability Engineering practice guidance. This role will drive KPIs for how we measure and manage our platforms and services.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Experience Infrastructure
- Own infrastructure, alerting, and monitoring for the core ecommerce platform
- Build and maintain observability (metrics, logs, alerting) to ensure platform reliability and fast incident detection
- Partner with ecommerce engineering teams to define SLOs/SLAs and reduce operational risk
- Manage infrastructure for the digital experience overall, including CDN, reverse proxies, and traffic routing
- Design and operate routing/edge architecture that ensures performance, availability, and security across customer-facing properties
- Evaluate and evolve CDN and edge strategy to support new digital initiatives
DevOps Leadership
- Lead the DevOps approach for the digital experience overall, spanning Azure, GCP, and AWS resources
- Drive the migration of existing pipelines to GitHub and GitHub Actions
- Define standards, reusable workflows, and governance for multi-cloud, multi-team delivery pipelines
- Partner with engineering teams to improve deployment velocity, reliability, and rollback safety
- Serve as the technical authority on digital experience infrastructure and DevOps strategy
- Mentor engineers on infrastructure, observability, and DevOps best practices
- Drive adoption of best practices through documentation, tooling, and hands-on collaboration
Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency
- Own cost visibility and optimization across infrastructure and processing costs across cloud providers
- Build reporting/alerting to catch cost anomalies and drive accountability with engineering teams
- Identify and execute cost optimization opportunities without compromising reliability
Required Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- 7+ years of software/platform engineering experience with 4+ years focused on infrastructure, SRE, or platform operations
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) infrastructure, or equivalent large-scale ecommerce platform operations
- Experience with CDN platforms, reverse proxies, and traffic routing/load balancing technologies (e.g., Akamai, Cloudflare, Fastly, NGINX, HAProxy)
- Strong experience building and operating monitoring/alerting stacks (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Grafana/Prometheus, Splunk)
- Proven experience with CI/CD pipeline design and multi-cloud environments (Azure, GCP, AWS)
- Direct experience migrating CI/CD pipelines to GitHub Actions
- Infrastructure & Platform Skills
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS, HTTP/2/3, WAF, load balancing)
- Experience with cloud cost management tools and practices (e.g., Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing, AWS Cost Explorer, FinOps practices)
Leadership & Collaboration
- Track record of leading infrastructure or platform initiatives across teams
- Strong incident response and on-call leadership experience
- Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs to both engineering and business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large commerce platforms
- Experience with FinOps practices or formal cost governance programs
- Background in migrating CI/CD tooling (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins) to GitHub Actions at scale
- Experience with multi-CDN or hybrid routing architectures
