About LegalZoom
LegalZoom is on a mission to help people navigate the legal system with confidence and clarity. As a leader in online legal services for over 25 years, we combine technology, attorney-led solutions, and expertise to protect the aspirations, lives, and legacies of millions of customers. If you’re ready to contribute to a collaborative, diverse, and distributed group of creative thinkers and problem-solvers, we can’t wait to meet you.
This hybrid position will work remotely as well as onsite in our (Los Angeles) Sherman Oaks office.
Human-in-the-Loop
At LegalZoom, we operate with a human-in-the-loop model, where AI enhances, rather than replaces, human judgment. We believe the strongest outcomes for our customers come from thoughtfully integrating human expertise with AI capabilities to improve accuracy, trust, and decision-making.
Overview
This is a high visibility individual contributor role with senior-level ownership and influence across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Customer Success, Attorney Operations, and Legal. The role sits at the center of AI, attorneys, and our customers, giving the Product Manager a front seat to shaping the new reality of how these 3 components come together to deliver better outcomes for all parties. It is built for a strategic product thinker who is hands-on, data-driven, and deeply grounded in the customer problem.
This Principal Product Manager drives 2 areas, owning the Legal Services product line, which includes Legal Plans and Intellection Property (IP) and accelerating across the Product Management function.
The Legal Plans and Intellectual Property (IP) Product Lines are where our attorneys play the front and center role in solving key customer challenges. The Legal Plans give small business owners and families ongoing access to attorneys, providing critical advice and support on legal matters such as correct entity setup, contract and employment questions and estate planning support. Intellectual Property covers the Patents, Attorney led Trademarks, and Copyrights line which provides the support to protect the investments our customers have built. Your goal is to deliver the value and expand the promise of those plans.
Second, you will raise the bar for how our broader Product organization works by combining human judgment with AI-powered workflows across the product lifecycle. You will build and scale approaches that help PMs uncover customer needs, evaluate opportunities, and turn insights into better products, faster. Partnering with Finance and Data Science, Design, and Engineering, you will connect customer discovery and opportunity sizing to rapid prototyping, experimentation, delivery, and continuous learning. You will define where AI can accelerate or automate work, where human expertise and review are essential, and how to measure improvements in speed, decision quality, and customer outcomes. The goal is to move the whole lifecycle with more precision and focus for all of the humans and agents in the process.
You will
Own strategy, roadmap, and results for Legal Plans and IP, accountable for acquisition, activation, retention, pricing, and unit economics.
Define the moments that matter in the customer lifecycle and design experiences that turn those moments into lasting value.
Understand the attorney experience and what is needed to deliver a world class human in the loop service.
Explore new areas where customers need attorney support, to drive consideration beyond our current market.
Partner with Product Marketing for pricing, packaging, and attach strategy for plans, including how plans connect to formation, estate planning, and other LegalZoom products.
Partner with attorney operations and legal teams to improve the consultation experience, and with Engineering on platform migrations that affect plan products.
Run a disciplined experimentation program: frame hypotheses, size opportunities, ship quickly, and make the call from the evidence.
Own and evolve Product Acceleration as a product for your fellow PMs: set its roadmap, measure adoption and output quality, and expand it into the workflows where it saves the most time.
Build the product wide customer insight engine. You must talk to customers regularly and share those insights broadly. Also, combine NPS, support, chat, voice, web behavior, and churn data into a consistent view of top customer problems that every PM can use for planning.
Teach and coach PMs and influence the organization to work AI-first with good judgment: when to automate, when to review, and how to keep quality, compliance, and customer trust intact.
Present business cases and investment rationale to senior leaders, and set clear decision frameworks and metrics.
Elevate product craft across the team through influence and example, without needing direct reports.
You have
8+ years of product management experience, including broad strategic scope and accountability for significant business outcomes.
Proven success owning a subscription or recurring revenue product end to end, with a track record of improving retention, engagement, and monetization.
Experience using customer interviews and data together to find the highest-impact problems and turn them into measurable improvements.
Hands-on experience building or adopting AI-driven workflows, and the judgment to know where they help and where they need human review.
Experience building shared tools, systems, or practices that make other teams better, and driving adoption through influence.
Strong analytical skills: you model changes, evaluate ROI, and make a recommendation you are willing to act on.
Experience influencing senior stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments, with excellent storytelling and executive presence.
The ability to operate at multiple altitudes, from long-term strategy to detailed execution, without losing momentum.
A bias toward action and a track record of delivering value quickly, then improving through feedback.
Bonus Experience
Experience with professional services, legal, insurance, or other membership products where a human expert is part of the value, including Service Design thinking or experience.
You have started a small business in the past or you are deeply familiar with the legal and compliance needs of a small business.
You have a passion for entrepreneurship on Main Street and seeing that customer succeed.
You understand attorneys and what they need out of a product and their workflows.
The salary range for this role is ($161,600-$258,500). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
