Shape the core data backbone powering enterprise-scale network security. Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Principal Product Manager to define the multi-year vision, overarching architecture strategy, and portfolio-wide roadmap for the Strata Logging Service and the foundational data platform capabilities driving Strata Cloud Manager.
The scope encompasses exabyte-scale log and telemetry ingestion, real-time distributed streaming engines, unified security data lakes, multi-tenant retention architectures, and high-throughput forwarding systems. These capabilities serve as the mission-critical foundation for Palo Alto Networks' security visibility, real-time threat detection, advanced analytics, and AI-driven autonomous security operations.
Operating at the strategic intersection of enterprise security requirements, large-scale distributed systems, and cloud economics, this Principal PM will drive platform strategy in tight partnership with Principal/Distinguished Engineers and executive leadership. You will make architectural and financial tradeoff decisions across global throughput, sub-second latency, data freshness, zero-downtime reliability, and cloud infrastructure margins.
Location: Palo Alto Networks Headquarters (Santa Clara, CA)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days/week onsite)
Your Impact
- Platform Vision & Strategy: Own the end-to-end strategy, architectural evolution, and multi-year vision for the Strata Logging Service, transforming raw network telemetry into a high-value, AI-ready enterprise data asset.
- Architectural Tradeoff Leadership: Partner with Distinguished Engineers and Systems Architects to evaluate high-stakes platform tradeoffs across ultra-high-throughput ingestion, real-time processing, schema governance, zero-data-loss durability, and global cloud infrastructure cost efficiency.
- Portfolio-Wide Influence: Act as the foundational data platform leader across all Palo Alto Networks product lines, ensuring unified logging, telemetry standardizations, and seamless data accessibility for downstream security engines and third-party ecosystems.
- Enterprise Customer & Executive Sponsorship: Serve as a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 CISOs, VP of Infrastructure, and SecOps leaders, synthesizing complex enterprise requirements into scalable, platform-wide capabilities.
- AI & Next-Gen Innovation: Architect data pipeline capabilities specifically tailored for next-generation AI/ML security workflows, real-time operational automation, and predictive analytics.
- Data Governance & Multi-Tenancy Architecture: Establish standards for global data sovereignty, multi-tenant isolation, enterprise access control frameworks (RBAC/ABAC), compliance standards, and schema evolution across dynamic security event models.
- Cloud Infrastructure Economics: Lead long-term unit-economic modeling for data ingestion, compute, storage, and egress, driving platform innovation that delivers best-in-class gross margins alongside high-performance SLAs.
- KPI & Business Outcomes Ownership: Establish executive-level operational and business metrics covering platform availability, ingestion SLA compliance, adoption velocity, platform unit economics, and customer ROI.
- Cross-Functional Executive Alignment: Align product marketing, go-to-market (GTM), field engineering, and executive leadership on major platform shifts, pricing/packaging paradigms, and developer integration frameworks.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive product management experience, with a proven track record of leading high-scale, enterprise-grade cloud platforms, SaaS infrastructure, or distributed systems.
- Deep Domain Expertise: Demonstrated success leading exabyte-scale logging, observability, SIEM, streaming data pipelines, or security data lake platforms.
- Architectural Mastery: Mastery in evaluating distributed systems architecture, real-time streaming engines, cold/hot storage tiering, data lakes, and API-first ecosystem strategies.
- Executive Presence: Proven ability to influence C-level enterprise stakeholders, cross-functional engineering VPs, and principal technical leaders without direct authority.
- Business & Financial Acumen: Demonstrated expertise in cloud unit economics (COGS), multi-tenant SaaS margin optimization, and strategic pricing/metering for data-intensive platform capabilities.
- Track Record of Scale: Proven experience driving platform capabilities from incubation to multi-million-user global scale while maintaining enterprise-grade SLAs ($99.99\%+$ availability).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent technical practical experience (Master’s or MBA preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strategic background in network security, Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), SASE, or enterprise SecOps ecosystems.
- Hands-on familiarity with cloud-native data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, Flink, Pulsar) and modern lakehouse architectures (e.g., Iceberg, Delta Lake, Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Direct experience building data infrastructure tailored for LLM training, real-time AI inferencing, or automated security orchestration.
- Experience defining enterprise-grade data export, API gateway architectures, and partner integration ecosystems.
- Deep knowledge of global data privacy laws, data residency frameworks (GDPR, CCPA), and industry security certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP).
