Principal Scientist

Location: Remote

Compensation: $230,000 - $250,000 annually

Summary: Lead oil & gas business development across Spheros, serving as senior account lead for the firm's major refining clients, drive expansion into new geographies and service lines, and act as the company's senior technical authority on air quality.

Oil & Gas Business Development & Growth

  • Own and execute the oil & gas growth strategy across Spheros divisions
  • Build and manage the O&G pipeline; lead pursuits, proposals, and win strategy
  • Serve as the senior technical face to refining and upstream clients
  • Represent Spheros at industry forums (AWMA, WSPA, API) to build visibility and relationships

Key Account Leadership — Phillips 66, Chevron, Marathon, Valero, Kinder, etc.

  • Serve as senior account lead and executive sponsor for each major account
  • Deepen relationships beyond the current California air-quality scope
  • Partner with and elevate existing account owners rather than replace them; coordinate a named account team for each client
  • Build and run account growth plans; track opportunities, capture, and revenue by account

Geographic & Service-Line Expansion

  • Extend existing client relationships into each operator's assets outside California (Gulf Coast, Permian/Rockies, PNW, Midwest)
  • Grow beyond air quality into additional Spheros disciplines — water/wastewater, ecology, permitting/NEPA
  • Advance high-value refinery service lines, such as: fenceline/benzene (40 CFR 63 Subpart CC) and flux monitoring, methane/flare measurement, consent-decree compliance, PFAS-in-air, odor source apportionment, and CCUS/decarbonization measurements, ETO
  • Coordinate build-vs-partner decisions with division leaders to ensure delivery capacity in new regions

Senior Air Quality Technical Advisor

  • Act as a senior technical authority across air quality projects
  • Provide design input, QA and technical review, and measurement-method expertise (FTIR, optical remote sensing, flux)
  • Support major air pursuits and proposals as senior reviewer and subject-matter expert
  • Mentor and develop air quality staff; strengthen firmwide technical credibility
