Working in tech at Australia Post is where innovation and problem solving meets great people and agile working. You’ll work with bright people on building and maintaining products and services that you and every other Australian get to benefit from every day. Whether you’re working from our modern office or your one at home, you’ll be part of a culture of collaboration and connection, making long-lasting impact right across Australia.
About the opportunity
Help shape the future of cyber security at one of Australia’s most trusted brands. As a Principal Architect - Security, you will be a senior technical leader within Australia Post’s Enterprise Security Architecture team, responsible for setting the strategic direction for security architecture across a complex and evolving technology landscape. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Security Architecture, you will partner with engineering, delivery and executive stakeholders to design secure solutions, influence enterprise technology decisions and strengthen cyber resilience at scale.
This is a unique opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with strategic influence, helping drive an AI-first approach to security architecture while supporting major transformation programs, modern platforms and critical cyber security capabilities across the enterprise.
What you’ll deliver with us
Commercial & Strategic Priorities
- Own the security target state, roadmap, patterns, standards and reference architectures for the assigned area of focus, aligned to the Enterprise Security Architecture strategy, Post 30, and the E&TA and Cyber Security strategies.
- Provide hands-on security architecture and assurance for programs, portfolios and platform teams: engaging early, leading threat modelling and articulating residual risk clearly to enable informed decisions.
- Act as security design authority for enterprise security capabilities, partnering with Cyber Defence, Application Security and Identity Engineering on tooling architecture and roadmaps, and turning penetration testing, threat intelligence and incident insights into architectural remediation.
- Drive AI-first and automated ways of working, including AI-assisted solution review, automated threat modelling, policy-as-code and architecture-as-code.
- Represent security architecture in enterprise governance forums (e.g. ARB, Engineering Council, AGF) and the architecture ELT, and provide cover and peer review across other Principal areas of focus.
Financial
- Reduce delivery cost and rework by driving reuse of validated security patterns and automated assurance across programs and platforms.
- Provide risk-informed trade-off analysis to inform investment prioritisation and business cases within the assigned area of focus.
- Contribute to the rationalisation of security tooling and licensing by identifying duplicated capabilities and consolidation opportunities.
About you
You are a highly skilled security architect with deep expertise across multiple security domains and a passion for enabling secure business outcomes at scale. You combine strong technical capability with a pragmatic approach to risk, bringing experience designing secure solutions, developing architecture patterns and guiding major transformation initiatives across complex technology environments.
You have a strong understanding of modern security architecture principles, including zero trust, secure-by-design, cloud and AI security, and stay current with the evolving threat landscape, emerging technologies and regulatory requirements. Comfortable operating from the engineering floor to the executive table, you can clearly communicate technical risk, influence critical decisions and build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. Experience with automation, AI-enabled security practices and enterprise-scale architecture assurance will be highly regarded, as will exposure to critical infrastructure, logistics or operational technology environments.
What else is in it for you?
- Bring your whole self to work every day and be met by a welcoming bunch of people who respect and support you
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements, like the opportunity to work from home two days per week
- Opportunities for growth and development through formal programs or mentorship
- Exclusive team member discounts and offers for more cash in your pocket, evolving policies for flexible working, leave types and access to health and wellbeing resources
