Principal Technical Architect (Field Service)
We are looking for a Principal Technical Architect – Field Service to lead the architectural design and delivery of large-scale field service transformations. In this role, you will partner with product owners, enterprise architects, field operations leaders, and engineering teams to translate complex business and dispatch requirements into scalable, resilient architectural blueprints.
As a trusted technology advisor, you must articulate design considerations, trade-offs, and benefits across the Salesforce Field Service ecosystem—balancing scheduling optimization, mobile offline architectures, and complex enterprise integrations while championing core engineering tenets (scalability, extensibility, maintainability, security, and high availability).
Role Responsibilities:
- Enterprise Field Service Architecture: Lead end-to-end technical architecture and solution design for enterprise Salesforce Field Service (FSL) implementations, aligning business processes (scheduling, dispatch, asset lifecycle management, work execution, inventory) with scalable platform patterns.
- Scheduling Engine Optimization: Architect and tune complex scheduling policies, routing rules, work rules, service objectives, and appointment bundling logic using the Salesforce Field Service Enhanced Scheduling and Optimization (ESO) engine.
- Mobile & Offline Solution Design: Design mobile field worker experiences using the Salesforce Field Service Mobile App, addressing offline data access, cache management, Mobile Extension Toolkit (LWC on Mobile), priming rules, and sync conflict resolution.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Partner and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (dispatchers, service managers, IT leadership, and C-level executives) to translate operational goals into architecture roadmaps and technical capability models.
- Reusable Asset Development: Create, maintain, and evangelize reusable FSL accelerators, data models, integration patterns, and dispatch automation frameworks across Coastal’s delivery teams to accelerate delivery and ensure architectural consistency.
- Enterprise Integration & Middleware: Design resilient integrations connecting Salesforce Field Service with enterprise back-office systems (ERP, inventory/supply chain systems, GIS/mapping platforms, IoT telematics, and EAM) using real-time and event-driven patterns.
- Technical Governance & Best Practices: Define architectural standards, coding guidelines, platform governance, and performance metrics (API limits, governor limits, data volume/LDV management) to ensure delivery quality and operational excellence.
- Platform Audits & Modernization: Evaluate client environments and legacy field service solutions to conduct technical gap analyses, identify platform bottlenecks, and define phased migration blueprints to Salesforce Field Service.
- Pre-Sales & Solution Strategy: Serve as an integral technical SME during pre-sales and discovery phases, shaping client value propositions, estimating technical complexity, and demonstrating architectural feasibility.
- Provide strategic guidance, delivery oversight, architectural governance and leadership, design oversight, and hands-on mentorship to peer architects and junior team members across distributed onshore and offshore delivery models, ensuring solution integrity and adherence to global delivery standards.
- Thought Leadership & Community Engagement: Represent Coastal in the Salesforce ecosystem by leading presentations at industry conferences (Dreamforce, World Tour), publishing technical thought leadership (LinkedIn, tech blogs), and driving internal knowledge-sharing.
Experience/Skills Required:
- Foundational Architecture Expertise: Deep expertise in cloud architecture principles, multitenancy, enterprise integration architectures, secure identity/access management, and distributed systems.
- Enterprise Delivery Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience delivering full-lifecycle enterprise software solutions, digital transformations, and operational support systems.
- Salesforce Architecture Track Record: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience designing and delivering complex technical architectures across the Salesforce Platform (Field Service, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud).
- Deep Salesforce Field Service Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated mastery of core FSL architectural domains:
- Work Order and Service Appointment lifecycles, Maintenance Plans, Service Contracts, and Entitlements.
- Scheduling and Dispatch: Dispatch Console configuration, Street-Level Routing (SLR), Predictive Travel, Complex Work, and Optimization policies.
- Inventory and Product Item tracking, Product Requests, and serialized asset tracking.
- Field Service Mobile: Priming configurations, offline LWCs, push notifications, and geolocation tracking.
- Integration & Event-Driven Architecture: Proven track record designing REST/SOAP APIs, Pub/Sub API, Platform Events, Change Data Capture (CDC), and middleware solutions (MuleSoft, Kafka, Azure, etc.) for high-volume operational workflows.
- Development & Platform Engineering: Advanced software engineering skills with Apex, Lightning Web Components (including offline-enabled LWCs), SOQL, custom platform automation, and governor limit mitigation strategies.
- Large Data Volumes (LDV): Hands-on experience architecting for LDV scenarios, high-frequency transactional data (e.g., location pings, telemetry, rapid appointment creation), indexing, and archiving strategies.
- Technical Modeling & Documentation: Expert capability in documenting solutions using UML (Class diagrams, Sequence diagrams, ERDs, State Machine diagrams) and architectural governance frameworks.
- Communication & Facilitation: Outstanding verbal, written, and executive presentation skills with the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical business stakeholders.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Salesforce Certified Field Service Consultant
- Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or System/Application Architect credentials
- Eligibility: Must have full-time permanent US work authorization.
Additional Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience
- Certified SAFe 6 Architect, or equivalent experience
- Travel as needed
