The Opportunity

Do you enjoy solving problems, helping people, and working in a role where no two days are exactly the same?

Cornell University's IT at Cornell team is seeking a customer-focused Print Technician to support CU Print, Cornell's campus-wide printing service. In this highly visible role, you'll be the go-to person ensuring students, faculty, and staff have reliable access to printing services across campus.

You'll spend your days working directly with campus partners, troubleshooting issues, coordinating with vendors, supporting over 140 student printing locations, and helping create an exceptional customer experience. If you're someone who enjoys hands-on problem solving, building relationships, staying organized, and making a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Department

IT at Cornell is a strategic partner supporting teaching, research, and business operations across the university.

Within IT at Cornell, the Enterprise Services CU Print Team manages Cornell's student printing environment and supports reliable printing services across campus. Our team works closely with students, library staff, campus partners, and technology vendors to ensure a seamless and equitable printing experience for the Cornell community.

What You'll Do

As the Print Technician, you'll serve as the primary on-campus support resource for Cornell's student printing environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to faculty, staff, students, and campus partners
  • Troubleshoot printer hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Coordinate service requests and repairs with Toshiba technicians and vendors
  • Support approximately 147 student printing devices across campus
  • Manage service tickets and ensure issues are resolved within established service levels
  • Monitor printer supplies, coordinate inventory, and maintain replacement parts
  • Process and investigate printing refund requests and service escalations
  • Provide hands-on support and training to campus printing coordinators and department contacts
  • Assist with system testing, upgrades, and print management software enhancements
  • Collaborate closely with IT colleagues, service desk staff, and campus partners to maintain reliable printing services

This role combines customer service, technical troubleshooting, communication, organization, and project coordination.

What We Need

We're looking for someone who is energized by helping others and thrives in a customer-focused environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of experience providing Tier 1/Level 1 technical support for printer hardware and software including installing and configuring printers, connecting printers to client devices, deploying printer client software, and troubleshooting printer, network, and workstation connectivity issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service, with strong relationship-building skills and a proactive approach to assisting customers and colleagues.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to contribute effectively as a collaborative member of a team.
  • Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills, including inventory tracking, maintenance scheduling, and documentation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work demands, manage multiple competing responsibilities, and respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations, delays, or changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to safely lift and transport equipment and supplies weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it’s ok if you don’t.

  • Experience supporting a large-scale managed print environment and enterprise print management solutions, including basic system administration and user provisioning.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and supporting single-function and multifunction printer hardware, including the creation and management of print queues, driver deployment, firmware updates, and printer configuration using vendor-supported fleet management tools.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and printer connectivity, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and related troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience supporting card readers and other peripheral or ancillary communication devices associated with print and authentication systems.
  • Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) and ticketing systems for incident, problem, and service request tracking.

Why You'll Love Working Here

You'll join a collaborative team that values communication, customer service, and supporting one another. You'll work closely with experienced colleagues who are committed to your success and will help you learn the campus, systems, and relationships needed to thrive in the role.

Highlights include:

  • Meaningful work that directly impacts the student experience
  • Opportunity to build relationships across the Cornell community
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Hands-on, active work that takes you across campus
