PRN Licensed Counselor – Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Position Type: PRN Schedule: Evenings – Three (3) IOP Groups per Week Program: Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Reports To: Clinical Director / Program Director

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and independently licensed behavioral health professional to serve as a PRN IOP Counselor. This position is responsible for facilitating three (3) Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) groups per week during evening hours. The evening schedule is specifically designed to provide accessible treatment for working adults and other individuals who require services outside of traditional business hours.

The ideal candidate will have experience providing group counseling to adults with mental health and/or substance use concerns and will be comfortable creating a structured, supportive, and therapeutically appropriate group environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The PRN IOP Counselor will:

  • Facilitate three structured IOP therapy groups per week during designated evening hours.
  • Provide evidence-based, person-centered group counseling consistent with each participant's individualized treatment goals.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and recovery-oriented therapeutic environment.
  • Utilize appropriate clinical interventions and group counseling techniques to encourage engagement, skill development, accountability, and progress toward treatment goals.
  • Complete required clinical documentation, including group notes, progress notes, attendance records, and other documentation, accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Monitor participant engagement, progress, behavioral health needs, and potential safety concerns.
  • Conduct appropriate risk assessments and follow established procedures when participants present with safety or crisis concerns.
  • Communicate relevant clinical concerns and changes in participant status to the appropriate members of the treatment team.
  • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, medical providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and protect participant confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in clinical consultation, supervision, or team meetings as required for the position.
  • Maintain all professional licenses, credentials, and continuing education requirements necessary to perform assigned clinical duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
  • Current professional clinical license in the state in which services are provided, such as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or comparable qualifying licensure.
  • License must be active and in good standing.
  • Demonstrated competency in providing behavioral health counseling services.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate therapeutic groups with adult participants.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a consistent evening schedule for three IOP groups each week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience facilitating IOP, PHP, outpatient, or other structured behavioral health groups.
  • Experience working with adults experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Training or experience with evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and skills-based interventions.
  • Experience providing services to working adults and individuals balancing treatment with employment, family, and other responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
