About Thermo Fisher Scientific

When you join Thermo Fisher Scientific, you become part of a team that delivers meaningful work with global impact.

With over 130,000 colleagues worldwide, we bring our Mission to life every day — enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

You will find the resources, leadership support, and development opportunities to reach your full potential while helping to advance science, technology, and innovation.

How You Will Make an Impact

As the Procurement Category Manager for Fluid & Gas Distribution (OEM), you will shape and execute global sourcing strategies that ensure supply continuity, strengthen supplier partnerships, and drive value across diverse product categories.

Your work will directly support innovation, operational excellence, sustainability, and cost optimization while partnering closely with cross-functional teams. This is a role for a collaborative, forward-thinking professional excited to define and influence strategy and deliver measurable outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute the global category strategy Fluid & Gas Distribution (OEM), aligned with divisional and enterprise priorities.
  • Build, lead, and maintain strategic supplier partnerships that enable innovation, supply assurance, and competitive advantage.
  • Lead complex global sourcing initiatives including RFPs, contract negotiations, cost modeling, and supplier selection.
  • Analyze market intelligence, industry trends, and risk indicators to proactively manage opportunities and vulnerabilities in the supply base.
  • Apply deep technical knowledge of valves and mass flow control (MFC) equipment to guide supplier selection, specification alignment, and engineering discussions; familiarity with chromatography instrumentation is a plus.
  • Own long tail spend management, rationalizing low-volume suppliers and parts while maintaining supply continuity and driving efficiency.
  • Develop and manage relationships with Chinese suppliers, navigating regional sourcing dynamics, quality standards, and logistics to strengthen supply chain resilience.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Product Management to align sourcing actions with technical roadmaps and operational needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance through KPI development, business reviews, and corrective action plans.
  • Advance sustainability, diversity, and responsible sourcing initiatives within the supplier ecosystem.
  • Leverage digital tools, data analytics, and automation to improve procurement processes and decision quality.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner to internal stakeholders, communicating confidently with senior and top management, building compelling business cases, and translating strategy into execution to support long‑term strategic planning.

How You Will Get Here

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of strategic procurement or category management experience in the Fluid & Gas Distribution space, with proven, hands-on experience sourcing valves and mass flow controllers (MFC), ideally in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial equipment.
    • Demonstrated success in leading and managing complex categories and negotiating global agreements
    • Experience working in a matrixed, international environment and collaborating across functions.
    • Proven experience managing long tail spend/supplier rationalization and working directly with Chinese suppliers and manufacturers within a global supply chain.
  • Skills and Expertise:
    • Strong analytical, financial, and problem‑solving skills.
    • Proven success leading strategic sourcing initiatives that deliver measurable cost savings, risk reduction, and innovation
    • Skilled negotiator with a proven ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
    • Strong proficiency in Excel and AI-enabled tools to support data analysis, spend visibility, and sourcing decisions.
    • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to engage and influence top management, building strong business cases and driving strategy through to execution.
    • Knowledge of Fluid & Gas Distribution (OEM) markets is a strong advantage; familiarity with chromatography is desired.
    • Knowledge of category management frameworks, supply market analysis, and cost modeling.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
    • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating a positive team culture.
