Show job description

Great stories start with extraordinary people.

We’re bringing together exceptional creative talent to tell the stories of people shaping the future. Work alongside people who raise your standards, champion your ideas, and give you room to do the best work of your career.

Story inspires science. Science makes story real.

Your Story

We're looking for a Producer who knows how to make the impossible happen.

Someone who's relentless, resourceful, and doesn't take no for an answer. You know how to stretch a small budget into something extraordinary, navigate complex productions, and find creative solutions when the obvious ones don't work.

At Story, you'll lead Masters of Movies, a new cinematic interview series in which Jason Carman sits down for two-to-three-hour conversations with the people who make great movies: directors, composers, actors, VFX artists, etc. Between them sits a monitor with the guest's films loaded in, so they can pull up scenes and walk through the craft together. We want to keep the craft of cinema alive, and respect it. A serious, unhurried conversation with the people who make the great films.

One week, you might be working the phones with agents and publicists to land a legendary director in the middle of a release cycle. The next week, you're building a set in New York or LA (C-stands, cinema cameras, a dark background) and making sure every scene cues up flawlessly on camera. You thrive at both ends of it.

What You'll Own

  • Make it happen. Take productions from concept to delivery. Find solutions, open doors, and keep pushing when things get difficult.

  • Run multiple productions. Manage several projects simultaneously, balancing budgets, schedules, crews, and competing priorities without losing track of the details.

  • Build exceptional crews. Find, hire, and manage talented freelancers, production partners, and vendors across different markets.

  • Make every dollar count. Own budgets, negotiate rates, and find creative ways to deliver ambitious work with limited resources.

  • Solve the hard problems. Secure difficult locations, navigate tight timelines, handle last-minute changes, and find a way forward when the original plan falls apart.

  • Lead on set. Run efficient, professional shoots, keeping crews aligned, guests comfortable, and the creative vision intact. Work with Wizard to make sure the on-set product experience works flawlessly.

  • Be a creative partner. Work closely with directors and cinematographers to figure out what's possible and find better ways to execute it.

  • Book the guests. Coordinate guests and negotiate their appearances. Many will come through film-release promotion cycles, so timing and relationships matter.

  • Get every episode out the door. Work with the editorial team from shoot through delivery.

  • Grow the audience. Own marketing and distribution: the launch plan, shorts and clips from each episode, guest cross-promotion, and audience growth.

  • Prep the host. Give Jason the guest research and the films to load into Wizard before each interview.

  • Be our voice in Hollywood. As the show grows, become the official liaison between Wizard and the Hollywood and entertainment community.

Your First Six Months

  • Three excellent episodes in the can.

  • A repeatable production playbook: booking, travel, set build, shoot, edit, release.

  • A guest pipeline beyond the first three.

You're the Right Person If

  • You have significant experience producing or showrunning talent-driven shows, documentaries, commercials, or other high-end video productions, ideally with minimal staff.

  • You've worked on both large-budget productions and lean, independent shoots. You're equally comfortable in both.

  • You're exceptionally resourceful. When someone says a location, shot, or idea isn't possible, your instinct is to find another way.

  • You're proactive and decisive. You don't wait for someone to tell you what needs to happen next.

  • You can juggle multiple productions at different stages without letting anything slip through the cracks.

  • You're a strong negotiator who knows how to get the most out of a budget without compromising relationships or quality.

  • You have a real phone book in film. You know, or can quickly reach, the agents, publicists, and people around major directors, composers, and actors, along with a trusted network of crew and vendors.

  • You stay calm under pressure and take ownership when things go wrong.

  • You're comfortable owning marketing and building an audience for a show.

What Sets You Apart

You have a relentless production instinct. You don't stop at the first no. You make another call, find another contact, negotiate a better deal, or come up with an entirely different approach.

You're scrappy without sacrificing quality. You can produce a beautiful film with a five-person crew and a shoestring budget, then turn around and manage a large-scale production with the same confidence.

You care about the work. You're not just checking boxes and managing logistics. You have taste, creative instincts, and genuine pride in what ends up on screen. You know what makes a great interview and a great film conversation.

You take ownership. You anticipate problems before they happen. You don't need to be chased for updates, and you don't pass problems off to someone else. You see things through.

You make everyone around you better. Guests trust you, crews want to work with you, and Jason walks into every interview prepared because you're running the show.
