As the Product Configuration Manager, you will lead the overall product configuration function at Acorn Insurance, covering our insurance CRM, PAS, claims and document management systems (e.g. ICE, ShareDO, Household Claims CRM, One Trust).
You will be responsible for defining and embedding best practice in system configuration, setting standards and processes, and ensuring that configuration work underpins Acorn’s product, operational and regulatory objectives. You will manage the configuration team (through Team Leaders where appropriate), own key relationships with system vendors and internal stakeholders, and play a crucial role in major change programmes and strategic system developments.
Job Title: Product Configuration Manager
Salary: up to £60,000 depending on experience
Location: Liverpool City Centre on a Hybrid working basis
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Responsibilities
- Own and lead the product configuration function for Acorn’s core insurance systems, ensuring it meets business needs for reliability, flexibility and regulatory compliance.
- Define and maintain configuration strategy, governance and best practices, including:
- Configuration design principles and standards
- Documentation, version control and change-control processes
- Quality assurance and peer-review practices
- Lead, manage and develop the configuration team (Team Leaders, Product Configurators and Junior Product Configurators), including workforce planning, recruitment, performance management and ongoing skills development.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders in Operations, Claims, Underwriting, Product, IT, Change, Compliance and Risk to:
- Understand business strategy and upcoming change
- Shape the configuration roadmap across systems
- Prioritise demand and manage capacity within the configuration team
- Act as the primary point of contact for third-party system providers, managing relationships, escalations, upgrades and new module implementations.
- Provide senior oversight to major change initiatives (e.g. new product launches, system migrations, large-scale regulatory changes), ensuring configuration work is well-structured, adequately resourced and effectively governed.
- Ensure that configuration supports FCA and other regulatory requirements, and that the function is audit-ready with appropriate evidence and documentation.
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics for the configuration function (e.g. change delivery timelines, incident volumes, defect rates), using them to drive continuous improvement.
- Champion standardisation and reuse across systems to reduce duplication and complexity, improving maintainability and reducing operational risk.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, learning and innovation within the configuration team and across the wider business.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in system/product configuration, business systems management or a closely related discipline, ideally within insurance or financial services.
- Proven experience leading a configuration, business systems or similar technical/operational team.
- Strong understanding of insurance operations, products and/or claims, and how they are delivered through PAS, CRM and claims platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to define and implement governance, standards and processes in a configuration or systems function.
- Excellent leadership and people-management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills, including at senior management level.
- Experience working with third-party system vendors, including managing escalations and change requests.
- Good understanding of regulatory expectations (e.g. FCA) and their implications for system configuration, controls and documentation.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term improvement with day-to-day operational delivery.
