About The Date Crew

At The Date Crew, we believe finding a life partner deserves better than swiping through strangers.

We're building a human-first matchmaking experience that combines thoughtful human judgment, personalisation, and technology to help people find meaningful relationships.

We're rethinking what a matchmaking service can feel like: more personal than an algorithm, more delightful than a traditional matrimonial service, and more thoughtful than a dating app.

Today, we're building the digital experience for a high-touch matchmaking service. Tomorrow, we want to build AI-powered matchmaking that feels genuinely human , technology that understands people without making them feel like data points.

We're looking for a designer who can help us bring this experience to life.

The Role

We're looking for a Product Designer with strong visual and brand instincts who can own the design experience end to end — from shaping the brand's visual language to designing an exceptional consumer app.

This isn't a role where you'll simply receive wireframes and make them look pretty. You'll help decide what the product should feel like, how it should behave, and how design can make a deeply personal experience feel intuitive, trustworthy, and delightful.

You'll work across product UX/UI, brand identity, design systems, and early AI-powered experiences. We want someone who can combine strong product thinking with exceptional visual taste, someone who understands that in a product as personal as matchmaking, every interaction communicates something about how much we understand and care about our users.

You'll have meaningful ownership, direct access to decision-makers, and the opportunity to shape a product from an early stage.

What You'll Do

1. Design a consumer app people genuinely enjoy using

  • Own the end-to-end design of our mobile app, from user journeys and information architecture to high-fidelity UI and interactive prototypes.

  • Turn complex matchmaking workflows into simple, intuitive, and delightful experiences.

  • Design thoughtful interactions across profile creation, onboarding, preferences, match discovery, introductions, and scheduling.

  • Make the experience feel personal and engaging without relying on the familiar mechanics of swipe-based dating apps.

  • Identify friction in the user journey and use design to improve usability, engagement, and conversion.

2. Build a distinctive visual identity for TDC

  • Develop a playful, expressive, consumer-first visual language that makes TDC recognisable and memorable.

  • Translate our human-first philosophy into typography, colour, illustration, motion, iconography, and interaction patterns.

  • Ensure the brand feels consistent across the app, website, and other digital touchpoints.

  • Find the balance between warmth, personality, trust, and the credibility expected from a premium matchmaking service.

3. Create a design system that scales

  • Build and maintain reusable components, design tokens, interaction patterns, and UI guidelines.

  • Establish a consistent design language across product flows and future features.

  • Work closely with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, accessible, responsive where relevant, and implemented with care.

  • Document design decisions and create clear developer handoffs.

4. Make technology feel more human

  • Explore how AI can make matchmaking more personalised, thoughtful, and intuitive.

  • Design AI-assisted experiences that feel like interacting with someone who understands you, rather than a generic chatbot or recommendation engine.

  • Help communicate the relationship between human matchmakers and AI in ways that build trust and preserve human judgment.

  • Think deeply about sensitive moments: sharing preferences, receiving a match, navigating rejection, and making consequential relationship decisions.

  • Prototype emerging ideas and help define what a genuinely human AI matchmaking experience could look like.

5. Own the design process end to end

  • Understand user needs and translate them into product opportunities.

  • Collaborate with founders, product, engineering, and matchmaking teams to understand real customer problems.

  • Move comfortably between exploration, wireframing, prototyping, testing, and final execution.

  • Seek feedback, validate assumptions, and iterate quickly without compromising design quality.

  • Take ownership of the quality of the final experience, not just the design files.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

Must-haves

  • 2–5 years of product design experience, ideally building consumer-facing digital products.

  • An exceptional portfolio demonstrating strong visual craft, thoughtful UX, and shipped products or credible end-to-end product case studies.

  • Proven ability to take a feature or product from an ambiguous problem to a polished, usable solution.

  • Strong understanding of mobile UX/UI, interaction design, information architecture, and prototyping.

  • Excellent visual instincts and the ability to build distinctive, cohesive digital experiences.

  • Experience creating or contributing to design systems and reusable component libraries.

  • Proficiency in Figma and the ability to communicate design intent clearly to engineers.

  • A strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and comfort working in an early-stage environment.

  • The ability to balance business goals, user needs, technical constraints, and visual quality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working on consumer apps in categories such as social, relationships, lifestyle, wellness, community, or personal finance.

  • Experience with brand identity, art direction, illustration, motion, or expressive visual systems.

  • Experience designing AI-powered products, conversational interfaces, or personalised recommendation experiences.

  • Experience with user research, usability testing, and experimentation.

  • Familiarity with accessibility, mobile interaction conventions, and working closely with engineering teams during implementation.

The Kind of Designer Who Will Thrive Here

You might be a great fit if:

  • You care as much about how a product feels as how it functions.

  • You can make a complex workflow feel effortless and a familiar interaction feel fresh.

  • You have strong visual taste and can explain the thinking behind your design decisions.

  • You believe technology should make people feel more understood, not more automated.

  • You know when to use patterns people recognise and when to challenge convention.

  • You enjoy ambiguity, take initiative, and can turn a rough idea into something tangible.

  • You care about the small details — the empty state, the reassuring message, the transition, the moment a user feels understood.

You don't need to be an AI expert or a brand strategist. We do need someone with the curiosity and design judgment to explore these areas thoughtfully.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success means:

  • Our app feels intuitive, polished, and meaningfully different from conventional dating products.

  • TDC develops a distinctive visual identity that translates consistently across its digital experiences.

  • Our design system enables the product to grow without losing coherence or quality.

  • Users feel understood, respected, and confident while navigating a deeply personal service.

  • We establish a strong design foundation for future AI-powered matchmaking experiences.

  • The team can move faster because design decisions are thoughtful, documented, and easy to implement.

Working With Us

  • Engagement: Contract / freelance.

  • Experience: Ideally 2–5 years.

  • Collaboration: Work directly with the founding and product team.

  • Ownership: End-to-end responsibility across product design, visual identity, and emerging AI experiences.

  • Environment: Early-stage, fast-moving, collaborative, and focused on building something meaningful.

We value strong work, independent thinking, and thoughtful execution more than impressive job titles.
