About Calo (more here)
Calo is an app providing personalized meal plans for busy people through nutritional algorithms, built with love by chefs, nutritionists, and software engineers.
Launched in Bahrain in 2019, we have since expanded to 6 countries, delivered millions of meals to our customers, and are now expanding our mission of making healthy easy to retail and other verticals.
We're on a noble mission to make healthy easy. We think this is one of the most important problems to tackle in our world today. We have global ambitions - no small thinking here.
Role overview
As a Product Developer on the Marketplace team, you will own one or more of Calo Market’s in-house CPG product lines end to end, from the initial brief to launch and ongoing performance. You won’t do every task yourself: you will lead the teams that do (NPD, Quality, Central Design, Supply Chain, Operations, Distribution and Marketing), set the deadlines, hold each team to its agreed SLA, and own the timeline, quality, cost and P&L of your line, including the decision to scale, fix or discontinue an SKU.
What You’ll Do
Own assigned CPG lines end to end, from the line brief through launch and post-launch performance across GCC.
Work with cross functional teams to coordinate launching a star product, up to quality and on time delivery
Manage securing the supply for in-house or outsourced products
Own the PnL of the assigned CPG lines.
Track sales, margin and cost after launch, run the post-launch review, and take the call on whether to scale, fix or discontinue each SKU.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in product development, category management, private label or NPD project management, ideally in CPG or food & beverage
A proven track record of taking physical products from concept to shelf
Experience working with manufacturers, co-packers or in-house kitchens, and with packaging and labelling
Commercial experience owning pricing, cost or P&L for a product line
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, Supply Chain or a related field
Native Arabic speaker, and fluent in English
Based in Bahrain
Knowledge and competency
Strong project management: running parallel workstreams against a fixed launch date
Ability to lead and influence teams you don’t manage directly
Working knowledge of food product development: recipe scaling, food costing, shelf-life testing and nutritional labelling
Understanding of packaging development: structure, materials, artwork and lead times
Familiarity with GCC food regulations and municipality registration is a strong plus
Commercial and analytical skills: pricing, margin analysis and sales tracking in spreadsheets
Clear, concise written communication: briefs, handoff packs, status updates and escalations
Comfortable working in Notion, Slack and Google Workspace
Who You Are
Ownership mindset: treats the line as their own business
Detail-oriented without losing sight of the launch date
Calm under pressure, and raises problems early rather than hiding them
Pro-active & direct communicator who holds others accountable with respect
Passionate about health, food and consumer products
