Command & Query — Remote · Full-time · Mid-level
Command & Query is a digital product agency based in NYC. We design and build software for clients ranging from medical societies to real estate developers to consumer brands. We're a small, senior team that ships real products, and we're looking for a product manager who wants to own work end-to-end.
About the role
We are seeking a Product Manager to own product areas within our flagship platform engagement for a national medical society. This role sits between clinician members, association staff, and our design and engineering teams, turning ambiguous organizational needs into specified, prioritized, shippable product work.
- Own one or more product areas end-to-end: learning products, membership and e-commerce, workplace tools, events, from discovery through spec, build, QA, and launch.
- Write clear product specifications and tickets, flagging open questions for stakeholders before engineering picks them up.
- Run discovery with clinicians, association staff, and board members; translate what you hear into requirements the team can build against.
- Facilitate problem definition with clients: lead discussions that move from a stated request to an agreed-upon problem worth solving before any solution is on the table.
- Facilitate solution ideation across client, design, and engineering: run sessions where the group converges on an approach and broker agreement on direction, including saying “not yet” and explaining feasibility trade-offs.
- Plan and run interviews with prospective and current users: craft the questions, recruit participants, facilitate the sessions, and synthesize what you hear into insights the team can act on.
- Validate proposed solutions before building: test prototypes or concepts with users and feed what you learn back into scope.
- Maintain and defend a prioritized backlog using explicit criteria (impact, evidence, effort) rather than loudest-voice sequencing.
- Partner daily with designers and engineers across our NYC, Athens, Bishkek, and Bogotá teams, working asynchronously across time zones.
- Lead working sessions, design reviews, and walkthroughs with client stakeholders, and follow up with decisions and action items in writing.
- Own acceptance: test what gets built, catch regressions, and hold the line on quality before release.
- Track dependencies and risks across concurrent workstreams, and escalate early when a decision is blocking the build.
- Coordinate launches: readiness checklists, support routing, internal enablement, and post-launch issue triage.
- Define success measures with the client before building, check them after launch, and report back on what the work changed.
- Keep documentation current: scope, decision logs, and status that your client and internal teams can both rely on.
- 2-4 years of product management experience on web applications or platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to write specs and tickets that engineers can build from without a follow-up meeting.
- Strong stakeholder management. Comfortable saying "not yet" to a senior client and explaining why.
- Experience in planning and facilitating working sessions or workshops with mixed client and internal teams (virtual and in-person).
- Experience conducting user interviews or other qualitative research, and turning findings into product decisions.
- Excellent written English; this is a writing-heavy, remote, asynchronous role.
- Experience working directly with design and engineering teams in an agile workflow.
- Comfort with ambiguity and with owning a domain you do not start out as an expert in.
- Linear, or similar issue tracking at the team scale.
- Learning platforms, LMS/LXP, continuing education, or CME workflows.
- E-commerce, subscriptions, or billing and renewals.
- Data literacy: building prioritization models, reading product analytics, sizing opportunities.
