About the role:
We are looking for a product manager / functional lead who has owned a custom-built enterprise application, not configured a packaged one. You will be the functional authority on a multi-year modernization: you own what the system does (its scope, business rules, backlog and releases) and you work between the client's business owners, our architects and an AI-enabled engineering team.
What will your typical day look like?
• Own the product vision, roadmap and prioritized backlog for a bespoke enterprise application, and decide what goes into each release.
• Lead functional discovery on an existing system: business rules, workflows, data and edge cases, including where the only documentation is the code and the people who run it.
• Turn that understanding into epics, user stories and acceptance criteria that engineers and testers can build and verify against.
• Lead a team of business and functional analysts, and own functional design sign-off with client stakeholders.
• Act as the bridge between business owners, architects, developers and QA, and resolve scope and requirement questions quickly.
• Run product reviews and demos, prepare UAT, and own functional acceptance.
• Manage scope and change requests against the agreed commercial model.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you
What you bring/ Must haves:
• 8+ years in enterprise software delivery, including at least 3 years as product owner, product manager or functional lead on a custom-built enterprise application (for example case management, benefits or financial administration, or another line-of-business system).
• Ownership of a product through at least one full cycle: discovery, backlog, build, UAT, go-live and post-go-live change.
• Strong requirements and business-rules analysis; comfortable reading data models and working alongside architects.
• Experience leading business analysts.
• Agile delivery experience (Scrum or SAFe) with Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Clear written and spoken communication with senior client stakeholders.
Nice to have:
• Hands-on experience with AI, for example using generative AI in your own product work (analysing legacy code and documents, drafting requirements and acceptance criteria), working with AI-assisted engineering teams where the specification is the source of truth, or owning a product with AI features.
• Modernization or replacement of a custom legacy system, including recovering business rules from the existing application.
• Canadian public-sector experience (provincial or federal), especially financial assistance, benefits, grants or case management programs.
• SAFe POPM, CSPO or a similar product certification.
• Eligibility for Canadian government security screening.
Not the right fit
• Configuration or functional leads whose experience is only on packaged platforms (Salesforce, Guidewire, SAP, Dynamics, ServiceNow) without owning a custom-built product.
• Project managers who have not owned scope and the backlog.
