The Product Owner is responsible for translating product strategy into a well-defined, executable backlog and guiding delivery through strong scrum practices. This role partners closely with engineering, design, QA, data, marketing, sales, customer success, and operations to ensure priorities are clear, defects are managed effectively, releases are communicated well, and delivered capabilities align to customer and business needs. The Product Owner is expected to bring strong judgment, disciplined prioritization, attention to delivery quality, and the ability to keep teams aligned on scope, progress, and outcomes.

What You Will Do:

  • Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria are clear, prioritized, and aligned to product strategy, customer needs, and company goals.
  • Lead scrum practices for the team, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily collaboration, sprint reviews, and retrospectives in partnership with engineering and scrum team members.
  • Partner with engineering, design, QA, and stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable requirements, sequencing work to maximize value delivery and team focus.
  • Make day-to-day prioritization decisions across new feature development, technical enablers, customer commitments, and production issues, balancing business value, urgency, and feasibility.
  • Drive defect management processes, including triage, prioritization, root-cause follow-up, and communication on severity, impact, and resolution status.
  • Support release planning and readiness by coordinating scope, validating completion against acceptance criteria, and ensuring clear communication of release content, timing, risks, and downstream impacts.
  • Serve as the primary point of clarity for the delivery team by answering requirement questions, removing ambiguity, and helping the team make timely decisions during the sprint.
  • Use product, operational, and customer feedback data to inform backlog priorities, continuous improvement opportunities, and post-release adjustments.
  • Communicate sprint progress, backlog tradeoffs, release updates, and delivery risks clearly to stakeholders across product, technology, and business teams.
  • Help strengthen team ways of working by improving backlog hygiene, sprint predictability, release discipline, and cross-functional coordination.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in product ownership, product management, business analysis, or a related role supporting agile software delivery, preferably in a B2B environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing and prioritizing product backlogs, writing user stories, and defining acceptance criteria for delivery teams.
  • Working knowledge of scrum practices and experience participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Experience coordinating defect triage and resolution processes in partnership with engineering and QA teams.
  • Experience supporting release planning, release readiness, and stakeholder communications for software deployments.
  • Ability to evaluate competing priorities using customer impact, business value, technical constraints, and delivery risk.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong understanding of agile delivery principles and the ability to maintain a healthy, value-driven backlog.
  • Ability to break down complex initiatives into clear stories, define done criteria, and support consistent sprint execution.
  • Experience partnering closely with engineering and QA to manage defects, production issues, and release quality.
  • Comfort communicating release scope, sprint outcomes, dependencies, and risks to stakeholders in a concise and actionable way.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through across multiple workstreams and timelines.
  • Experience helping teams improve delivery processes, backlog discipline, or scrum maturity is a plus.

Success in This Role

Success in this role is measured by the ability to keep the team focused on the highest-value work, maintain a clear and actionable backlog, support predictable sprint execution, manage defects with urgency and discipline, and communicate releases effectively to stakeholders. Success also includes improving delivery quality, strengthening scrum practices, and ensuring the team consistently delivers outcomes that meet customer and business expectations.
