About Brandt

Brandt is the get-outdoors company. State and local agencies steward the parks, lakes, and wildlife people come for; our platforms make getting there easy — from purchasing a hunting or fishing license, to registering a boat, to reserving a campsite — and help agencies manage those resources sustainably. A family with a trip planned doesn’t get a second try at opening day, and neither do we. We're modernizing our platform and building new products, always with an eye toward making that experience better for the agencies and the people who depend on it.

About the Role

The Product Owner is accountable for the value a Go Outdoors delivery team delivers: what the team works on, in what order, how clearly the work is defined, and whether what ships achieves its intended outcome. As the single owner of product definition for the team, the Product Owner leads discovery, requirements, and acceptance end to end, using AI tools to accelerate analysis and drafting while remaining accountable for every decision and approved artifact. The role partners closely with Product Management, Engineering, QA, clients, and client-facing teams, and makes priority and scope decisions within the team's agreed objectives.

What You'll Do

  • Backlog Ownership & Prioritization (Decision Quality; Plans and Aligns; Balances Stakeholders): Own the team backlog as the single ordered list of work. Decide what to pursue, defer, or decline within the team's objectives, and communicate the rationale to stakeholders.
  • Product Definition (Manages Complexity; Ensures Accountability; Communicates Effectively): Work directly with clients, stakeholders, and users to define what the product must do. Own PRDs and feature definitions, including business rules, edge cases, and acceptance criteria, complete enough that the team can build and test without guessing.
  • AI-Enabled Analysis (Tech Savvy; Optimizes Work Processes): Use approved AI tools to synthesize feedback, draft and refine feature specifications, trace contract requirements, and surface gaps. Verify AI output against source evidence before approving it.
  • Discovery & Research (Customer Focus; Strategic Mindset): Lead discovery using user research, usability testing, usage and support data, regulatory changes, and direct conversations with clients and end users. Bring evidence of the user, problem, desired outcome, and success measure before work enters planning.
  • Scope and Value Management (Courage; Manages Conflict; Balances Stakeholders): Negotiate scope when demands compete, keeping the team focused on the most valuable outcomes. Validate client requests against contract requirements and escalate interpretation questions rather than committing Brandt to new scope.
  • Delivery Partnership (Action Oriented; Drives Results): Partner with Engineering to keep well-defined features ready ahead of the team at the pace it delivers. Make timely product decisions during delivery so the team is never blocked waiting on answers.
  • Acceptance & Quality (Ensures Accountability; Customer Focus): Own product acceptance of delivered features and client UAT readiness.
  • Outcome Validation & Continuous Improvement (Drives Results; Nimble Learning; Cultivates Innovation): Inspect what you expect. Measure delivered changes against their success measures and recommend the next action. Continuously improve team practices, templates, and AI tooling.

What You Bring

  • A track record of defining features that shipped with minimal rework and measurably improved outcomes in high-volume software applications with large user bases and complex business rules, such as licensing, eligibility, fees, or payments.
  • Sound judgment in prioritizing competing demands, with the confidence to make and defend decisions.
  • Practical use of AI tools in product work, paired with the rigor to catch and correct what they get wrong.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with Product Managers, Engineering, QA, and client-facing teams.
  • A customer-centric, data-informed approach and a high level of ownership from discovery through outcome.

What You Will Need

  • 2–4 years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or in a similar role in a technology environment.
  • Hands-on experience defining requirements with clients and stakeholders, maintaining a backlog, and preparing work for development.
  • Working knowledge of prioritization techniques, feature definition, and acceptance criteria.
  • Regular use of AI tools to draft and analyze requirements, with demonstrated review discipline.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or a similar work management tool.

The selected candidate should have the skills, qualifications, and experience consistent across the Staff I to Staff II levels within Brandt’s job architecture. The compensation range is $85,000.00 – $95,000.00, with final level and salary determined based on the candidate’s expertise, qualifications, and prior experience within the applicable pay band.
