At Intelerad, we believe the path to answers in healthcare should be clear-whether you are waiting for a diagnosis or trying to expedite one. Our medical imaging solutions streamline the flow of information, simplifying complex processes, maximizing efficiencies, and shining a light on the unknown. We empower physicians to get patients the answers they need faster and improve outcomes for everyone. With more accessible imaging, we are getting patients out of the dark.
Headquartered in Raleigh, NC and Montreal, Intelerad has nearly 800 employees located in offices across four countries. The company empowers nearly 2,000 healthcare organizations around the world with the speed, scalability, and simplicity needed to increase business performance while, most importantly, improving patient outcomes. Intelerad’s modern enterprise solutions have been acknowledged by a Best in KLAS recognition, ranking #1 for PACS Europe UK/Ireland in the 2026 Best in KLAS: Global Software (Non-US) report.
The Product Owner, Universal Gateway, owns the backlog for the single ingress and egress layer that carries DICOM studies and HL7 messages into and out of Intelerad's cloud platform, serving IntelePACS, InteleArchive, InteleShare VNA, InteleViewer, and InteleOrchestrator. Universal Gateway replaces today's product-specific gateways, relays, and edge servers with one standardized service for DIMSE and DICOMweb traffic, HL7 routing and normalization, authentication, and multi-tenant isolation. This is a hands-on, technically deep role: the Product Owner works day-to-day with platform engineering, SRE, and Hosting teams, and ensures that what gets built is reliable enough for clinical imaging workflows where downtime directly affects patient care.
Acting as the primary connection point between the Product Manager's vision and the development team's execution, the Product Owner combines deep knowledge of DICOM, HL7, and healthcare integration with hands-on agile delivery experience on platform or infrastructure products. Success in this role depends on sound day-to-day judgment: making trade-off decisions that keep delivery aligned to the broader product strategy set by Product Management and business leaders. This is not a generalist Product Owner role. Candidates should bring direct, hands-on experience with medical imaging interoperability, integration engines, or healthcare connectivity infrastructure. In your application, please describe a specific DICOM, HL7, or healthcare integration problem you owned and how you resolved it.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and prioritize the product backlog for Universal Gateway, writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria for DICOM DIMSE (C-STORE, C-FIND, C-MOVE, Storage Commitment, MWL), DICOMweb (STOW-RS, QIDO-RS, WADO-RS), HL7 v2 inbound and outbound messaging, and pathology whole slide imaging (WSI) ingestion.
- Partner daily with engineering and design throughout the development lifecycle — refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives — making timely trade-off decisions on scope, sequencing, and priority, and escalating strategic or financial trade-offs to the Product Manager or Director as needed.
- Define and validate non-functional requirements, including failover SLA, RTO/RPO, multi-AZ high availability, and throughput and latency targets by modality (CR through large CT, mammography, and WSI), and confirm delivered features meet them along with DICOM PS3.4 conformance and the published DICOM Conformance Statement.
- Gather and synthesize input from Sales, Customer Success, Support, and customers to inform backlog refinement, and support the Product Manager with market research, competitive analysis, and feature-level requirements.
- Track and report on sprint and release progress, velocity, and delivery metrics, proactively flagging risks to scope or timeline, and incorporate feedback from user acceptance testing and beta programs into subsequent backlog iterations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, technology, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or integration or interface engineer, including at least 2 years on platform, infrastructure, or integration products rather than end-user feature applications.
- Working knowledge of agile/scrum methodologies and hands-on experience with backlog and sprint management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
- Hands-on working knowledge of DICOM (DIMSE services, DICOMweb, AE title configuration, conformance statements) and HL7 v2 (ADT, ORM, ORU), demonstrated by writing requirements for, configuring, or troubleshooting DICOM or HL7 interfaces in production.
- Experience partnering directly with engineering teams, with comfort leading technical discussions on feasibility, sequencing, and trade-offs, including high availability, failover, and multi-region design for Linux-based, containerized services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in requirements definition and quality validation.
- Working understanding of cloud infrastructure and operations, including AWS or equivalent, containers, infrastructure as-code (such as Terraform and Ansible), networking (load balancers, VPN, TLS and mTLS), and observability tooling.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Requirements
- Experience with medical imaging systems (PACS, VNA, RIS) or integration engines and routers (such as Mirth/NextGen Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or DICOM routing products).
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence rather than authority.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with a track record of collaboration across engineering, design, and cross-functional business teams.
- Experience defining SLAs, RTO/RPO, or reliability targets for clinical or other mission-critical systems.
- Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS architectures, tenant isolation, and healthcare security and privacy obligations (HIPAA, GDPR, or equivalent).
- Exposure to digital pathology (whole slide imaging) or high-volume modality workflows such as mammography and large CT. This job description is not a comprehensive list of tasks or requirements and Intelerad reserves the right to change it at any time.
